I would MUCH rather Angelo try to fix the glaring holes on defense and at WR rather than try to develop yet another QB. With a true #1 WR and a better OLine, Orton would be very good.

I agree completely. Without that ankle injury I don't think QB play is questioned at all this season.

No doubt to me the real problem this season was a combo of porous pass defense, exacerbated by the lack of QB pressure in the first half of the season, and poor WR play. The o Line played better than I thought. Even St. Claire was better than I thought he would be. When he's at G and Chris Williams is healthy the line will be better, especially if we pick up another tackle in the off season.
The Bears top priority this off season should be some WR talent. And for God's sake lets get the hell rid of Booker and Davis both. Droppy McButterfingers, both of em. Oh and wouldn't you like to see Lloyd back next year? He was good when he wasn't hurt.

Don't get me wrong, the offense in general and QB play should take some heat, but if I'm a GM or an exec trying to fix this team for next year, I look to surround Orton with better talent and more capable players than get a new QB.

Before he injured his ankle in the second Lions' game at Soldier Field, Kyle Orton appeared to FINALLY be the Bears' long overdue franchise QB. I think while his stats declined when he came back from the injury, Orton doesn't have the wide receivers on this team that he'd have on other teams around the NFL. I thought Orton didn't panic and seemed to march the Bear offense down the field with the game on the line vs. New Orleans & Green Bay at home, and he appeared to guide a game-winning drive in Atlanta...That was before the defense collapsed in the last 11 seconds and lost a heartbreaker, of course. I would like to see the Bears upgrade their receiving corps & give Orton a little more durable offensive line before I'd consider giving Kyle a big raise. There's also the matter of a certain someone we love to hate...Rex Grossman, whose days in a Bear uniform are likely over once & for all, and that the Bears need to upgrade Kyle's backup for next season. Is Caleb Hanie, the #3 QB who earned a roster spot last preseason, worthy of challenging for the #2 job in training camp or will the Bears spend the $$$$ to look at San Diego's backup Billy Volek, Houston's Sage Rosenfels or bring Brian Griese back from Tampa Bay for a second tour of duty here? In plain English, I think the Bears have to address other areas before considering whether Orton is the long term answer as the Bears' starting quarterback for quite sometime to come...

So why not just say that to start with, instead of including all the rest of the BS?

And with all the talk of drafting a QB. While Brady was "found" in the 6th round, I don't trust Angelo's talent evaluation skills to "find" any offensive player in any round.

(And don't forget that even the jewel in Angelo's defensive-drafting crown is only here because he didn't get the guy he originally wanted).

Ya I agree but Plax was solid for a lot of years, and got a ring. He also played on good teams his whole career but pretty good career for a WR.

He wasn't (isn't) a bad receiver, but it's funny how much his reputation was saved by 2007. If last year never happens, or the Packers win the game in Lambeau or whatever, Plaxico continues being considered a semi-bust who put up decent numbers but never lived up to expectations. 2007 rehabilitated him in a lot of ways.
