Well, you can now add the Sun-Times' Chris DeLuca to the list--a list which seems to be expanding at an alarming rate--of colleagues that Murph has had or is having feuds with.

DeLuca wrote this today downplaying the Milton Bradley thing:
"Outside of a few diehards who want to believe every year is the year, and one particularly upbeat radio personality who has ordered up a new set of pompons -- score one for Mike Murphy -- the Bradley acquisition is a little anticlimactic."

Now, DeLuca was a regular guest on Murph's show during the summer and I'm not even sure if this was meant to be nothing more than a little innocent poking fun of Murph, but he proceeded to devote an entire segment of the show to defending himself against this perceived insult, even going so far as to drag out tapes going all the way back to the early days of the Score proving that he can be critical of the Cubs. Digging up all those old tapes and actaully putting together a whole segment on defending yourself against one little line a guy wrote in the paper about you seems a little . . . well . . . crazy. You have to wonder.

I thought it was a harmless rib also, Crappy. You could tell Joe B. was getting a bit uncomfortable about the whole thing by the end.
Sometimes I picture Murph in a corner, wringing his hands, muttering about his missing "strawberries".

He went so far as to use a piece of tape from when he ripped the cubs for signing Jaimie Navarro as an example of how he's not an ass licker. What was that, 1995?? He had to dig DEEP into The Score archives for that one. This guy's a clown (sorry Reason).

Sounded like classic Murph. Funny, but not for the reasons he intended.

Right, that was the other weird thing about it. He makes update guy Joe sit there for the whole thing ("You got another minute, Joe? Got one more minute to stick around and hear this next tape?") so he can have someone there to agree with him. ("So, does that sound like a guy who thinks every year is the Cubs' year? Huh? Does it?)

Perhaps your new name could be Murph's Crappy

I thought the segment was pretty funny. But then I smile when I hear M C F A I L.

Let the record show that Murph did air a tape of a phone call (albeit to another show) where the caller referred to Murph as the 'Mustaschioed Moron'.

Just remember all publicity is good.In thr media the only thing bad is to be ignored.Murph has been critical of the Cubs in the past anyway.Remember when under Baker they had the little 3 rd base coach who couldn't help sending runners home into sure outs?
Murph was on his case like white on rice.

Of course he was, 'cause Wavin' Wendell was wasting runs for the Cubs on a regular basis. 95% of Cub Nation was against him being the 3rd base coach. You don't get credit for being critical if 95% of people agree with you.

No doubt Murph can overreact to people taking good natured shots and mean shots at him, but I like it.

We need more feuds!

He's at it again with Stone. Today on Hampton & Holmes, Stone asked them to "pass along condolences to the Mustacheod (sp?) Cheerleader of the Mark Cuban getting the Cubs fan club since I don't think it's going to be his year". Naturally Murph took offense and repeatedly played sound bites of Stone comments which he thought made him look wrong. He also stated that he had wanted Stone to continue on his show...thus implying it was Stone who pulled the plug. Pretty funny...Murph's skin is so thin you can literally watch his blood boil  .

Yeah, that was funny today. I would tend to believe Murph, though, that Stone ended the relationship. Stone can be pretty thin-sknned, too, and Murph was the one guy who might actually challenge a Stone prouncement now and then instead of worshipping at Stone's altar like most of the other hosts. And Stevie no like that.

Murph didn't seem to have a problem worshiping at that altar while Stone was employed by the cubs.

Steve stone is a hypocrite plain and simple. He is reminds me of Bruce Levine every day. Don't question what he does or says, otherwise he will attack you will all the piss and vinegar of a old man.

Yes it was Steve's call. From what I remember Steve didn't appreciate Murph interrupting him constantly. Every week when Stoney would be on Murph would basically try to show that he was just as smart as Steve. He would plan the whole segment and then get pissed at Steve for not answering the questions, like he wanted them to be answered. He would interupt him and basically be the ass that Murph is. Funny thing is I think Murph thought Stoney liked him. He must feel betrayed now.

Steve asked to not be on with Murph anymore. He wasn't going to sign last year, if he had to go on with Murph. (Not positive on this and dont want to speak for Steve but this is what I remember) That is why he became a guest with Mully and Hanley. After all why wouldn't the baseball analyst with ties to the Cubs, not be on the Cub's infocommercial. It just doesn't make sense unless that expert doesn't like to be interrupted by the Manbitch.

Yeah, but if you don't interrupt the guy, he'll ramble on non-stop for 15 minutes on each question.

What doesn't make sense is that the television voice of the Chicago White Sox has the time and impartiality to offer his thoughts on the Chicago Cubs.
