Kurt Cobain wasn't even the best guitarist in his band let alone one of the "all time" greats...

How many Nirvana songs did Dave Grohl write on guitar while drumming for Nirvana?

None. But my opinion is he's a better song writer and musician, by far.

Hindsight is 20-10 kids...Dave Grohl said that he didn't become a decent guitar player until AFTER Nirvana broke up.

Great...but he's still a better guitar player now than Cobain ever was...

Are you actually arguing the semantics of a sarcastic remark?

Dave was writing music during the major Nirvana tours. He might not have been as "good" as Kurt then, but I'll be it was close.

Songwriting is equal?!? Really?!? Well, I guess that's an opinion and that can't be argued, but I disagree...

The original post was a joke, albeit, a joke based on my opinion of Kurt Cobain's guitar "prowess"...

Sarcasm is not the easiest thing to read in print...which is why the web gods invented smiley's.

Dave may have been writing music during the major Nirvana tours, but it wasn't guitar for Nirvana songs.

Yeah, I think the songwriting is equal.

Which is a good thing, IMO. I heard he was intimidated by Kurt and wouldn't play his musings around him.

Well opinions are like posts on an internet forum. Everyone always disagrees with mine.

I think Dave writes funnier, upbeats songs with tons more latitude for creative drumming, while Kurt's songs where more; whisper verse/bash chorus/whisper verse/bash chorus/crappy solo/bash chorus...

If foo fighters and nirvana were a band at the same time, i may agree with you more. but, they weren't. so, comparing songs that were written 3-14 years after Kurt, uh...stopped writing music, isn't really a fair comparison imo.
Dave had the experience of Nirvana to shape his writing. Would Kurt still be playing Nirvana-esque grunge-pop songs in his 40s?

There are a lot of knuckleheaded things that get posted here, so I take what everyone writes literally instead of trying to sift through the obvious and sarcastic. When there were 20 posters, it was easier to figure that out.

Dave does write more funny upbeat songs. There are very few current creative rock drummers imo, but to each his own. I can think of one.

quiet-loud-quiet-loud....You just described 90s alternative grunge rock in a nutshell.
