I'll still listen to Waddle and Silvy.

I like Carmen and Jurko but I'll probably listen to B&B more.

No more remotes. :x

The same mgmt team isn't there though....but I don't think they would be able to afford Mac...they just let go of Heubner and I'm sure Mac made at least 5 times the amt of a Frederico...

Watching the Hawks and Stu calls me and tells me the news. I texted Mac right away and he'll be fine and he's proud of what they built.I'll let him come here and give the board the news.

It sucks because I enjoyed the show very much as a lot of you did here and Mac will be sought after by a many outlets here. I'm just sad my favorite show is longer together.

I'm not sure what incentive the Score would have to hire Mac. They'd have to shell out pretty big money, and they're going to get a lot of the advantage just by the fact that Mac isn't at the main competitor. There's no other game in town. I know that the North albatross has been removed, but B&B aren't cheap, and they'll probably be more concerned about locking up big coin in them first. I'm not sure how much is left over after that.

I'm sure Mac will land on his feet somewhere.

I'm so very sorry....I was blindsided with a job ending last year....It sucks worse than the worst suckfest ever.

I'll light a candle for you at mass Sunday.

I know the droll-sounding Ron Gleason was Program Director at the time Mac left "The SCORE", but I don't see Mitch Rosen and management welcoming Danny back for a second stint.

Moment of silence for Mac...Thankyou.

Ok. Now everybody raise their glasses for "The last Afternoon Saloon" or "Afternoon Thunder". It was fun and a great run.

Let's give it a listen and drink to Mackie!!!!!

Welcome back to the days of 0.0 ratings ESPN1000. The guy single handedly made you relevant in this market and this is how you treat him?

The only good that could come out of this is if all the talent is re collected back at the SCORE and it gets back to its roots.

I get a local Lafayette, IN ESPN station which airs M&M, Colin  , MT & SVP (too much Tafoya!!!!) and then I don't know what national show is on now...they lost me when Eric Silliness (yeah, I LOVE him! ) left espn radio. The only reason I ever tuned in to the Chicago ESPN (lots of static when I have to run the heater or windshield wipers) station was to listen to MJH. Now, I have no reason to tune in to 1000 again. :(

This makes no sense. I agree with dolphin. ESPN is toast and I don't get why you part ways with the only guy on the station anybody makes a point of listening to.

No offense to Silvy. I like Silvy and will listen when I can but this makes it real easy to just turn on the Score and leave it there.

I really don't get this. I guess I'll reacquaint myself with B&B if Kid Cairo will allow it.

This sucks ass. Ken, the only reason they're doing this is because of money.

Maybe the Score will team Mac up with Murph...

 (a cold day in hell those two work together).

I'm sure Mac will find something soon, and not in some lame ass North way (online sportsbook), but something legit. At least he'll have time to write that book...

We want Mac!!!!

We want Mac!!!!

We want Mac!!!!

He probably has to watch his words if he has any money coming to him. They probably put a gag order on him if he wants to get paid. They probably warned him about posting the truth even on our little message board. ESPN corporate covers it all.

I wouldn't give up on ESPN Radio 1000, not by a longshot. Carmen has been very good whenever he's been a guest bartender at the "Afternoon Saloon" with "Jurko" & Harry, and I've heard Mac say positive things about Carm's future. Mac has also been very positive about "Waddle & Silvy" lately between 9a-Noon, and I'd rather listen to Tom & Marc than "Hampton & Holmes"/Mike Murphy any day of the week.

So ESPN can't get advertisers to the top rated sports show in Chicago? If it's about money then ESPN really is done if they can't afford to get top talent that gets ratings.

Bernsie and Mac were the only stars in town. Everybody else you would listen to cuz there was no other option. You might like them but they weren't radio stars.

I predict that this will be the return of almost exclusively national programming. That wouldn't be so bad if the SCORE stayed true to its nature, but they probably wouldn't mind going more national either. It's cheap, safe programming during tough economic times.

For the cost of ad time, companies aren't finding it worthwhile to advertise anywhere, whether it be over the airwaves or in print. Pennies are being pinched like a fat child's face.

I think Mac got Tubervilled. He's performed well for a long period of time, has reached the point where he makes a lot of money relative to other hosts, and that performance started to slip. I guess maybe the rationale is that if you're paying a guy that much, you better win every book. I'm not saying I agree with it, but that was probably the rationale.

It's not a matter of can't, it's a matter of won't. ESPN1000 never really wanted local programming. Mac just kind of dragged them in kicking and screaming.

I'm not going to bash Harry because of this, but I think it will quickly become apparent how much heavy lifting Mac did at that station.

Well, "The Pulse with Doug Gottlieb" airs Monday night come 7p on ESPN Radio 1000, and with Brian Kenny's new national show debuting February 2nd, national programming appears to be the plan on nights the Bulls don't play. They've already pulled the plug on LOCAL "SportsCenter" updates after 7p, also the likely result of the recession.

That's what I think will happen. Perhaps Holmes is in the mix somehow (hopefully not).

Question for those out of market:

How many of the show are local, as opposed to national? IIRC from my time in DC and Central Florida, each has only one local show M-F and none on the weekends.

I have been podcasting some of the Sporting News shows, but don't listen to them much. Tim Brando's show is pretty bad - the guy is still breaking down Utah/Alabama.
