I do beleive they will have to say something on Monday, becasue I think any phone call they get will be about this, unless when you call in, they tell you not to ask about Mac, of course say you won't, then say something about it when your on the radio. Monday will be a good-bye to Mac Show.

Closing time - time for you to go back to the places you will be from.
Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end

Mitch Rosen has stated to me in the past: I WILL work with Dan McNeil again.

I'll hold him to it now.

Best of luck Danny Mac. ...and Mitch - open up the coffers over at 670. Grab some of that $750K per annum money you've been hiding away since North walked away from it.

Word is that he is under contract until May and they aren't going to release him but just keep him off air. Don't know if they would let him go to get started somewhere else.

So they pay Mac until May.

They got rid of him now cuz they weren't gonna pick up that option. They knew Mac would figure that out cuz I'm sure he was gonna bring it up. They thought he would bitch all the way until May. Didn't want that.

Like I said earlier, I'm convinced this came as a shock to Mac.

But what if he could? Boat-mongering, living in Allen(town)Brothers?-Billy Joel alert...Tiny One!

It's like January 16, 2009! Ambushed Jurky! A day or evening or an overnight that went down in infamy, Hairy!

100% accurate in my opinion.

Maybe a little shocking at the moment it happens, but I imagine the shock would fade pretty quickly. I doubt they would just fire him out and out without inquiring about renegotiating the option year and then adding some years to that.

I'm surprised it took that many pages for the Bristol meetings this week to be invoked. Add to it based on Trib, Pastor's statement was "prepared"....This has nothing to do with today's show/comments.

Jim Pastor, who is regional general manager for ESPN Radio, said in a prepared statement. “Mac’s played a big part in ESPN 1000’s success. This afternoon I thanked him for that and wished him well in the future.”

I'm sure there are some people smirking about this, in light of last weeks piece in the SunTimes where he blasted some other media people. But this is really disappointing to me. I followed Dan from the Score over to MVP. If he goes back to the score, I will too. I just enjoy his shows that much. He has been the best sports talker in this market, in the past two decades IMO. I understand that Ad revenues are down, as are the ratings over at MVP, so I can understand them wanting to cut payroll. But I think this is a big mistake. You lose Harry or Jurko, the show goes on. You lose Mac and the show really stops. Carmen, Harry and Jurko, will not get it done for me. I've heard this before when Mac was on vacation. It got me listening to CD's instead. I have no idea what Mac will do, but if he stays in the Chicago market, wherever he lands is the station I'll be tuning into. MVP will have me listening to Waddle and Silvy and thats it.

There has to be an AC/DC tribute band somewhere in the Ball State area with which he can alert Joe Table and Hank White to have a retrospective on the "Huge Show" and his inception of Bill and Loooooooouuuuu! What a time we had!

We were all a part of "Change"...and it starts now!

WSCR, no way!

I think...I think we've all built our lives around Mac. I think we're all afraid of change.

This one goes out to all the broken hearts tonight. This is for you Daddy Mac. :(

I just got word from NW Indiana. Mac is drunk. This is his response to Jim Pastor and the ESPN empire.

Question for those out of market:

How many of the show are local, as opposed to national? IIRC from my time in DC and Central Florida, each has only one local show M-F and none on the weekends.

I talked to Justin Craig back in September about this. Since Chicago was the first of the Owned and Operated ESPNs they have (had at this point) leverage over the other 4 O and Os to run more local instead of national to the average of about 2 hours more local per day. This was mostly seen though on nights and weekends. I know for instance in Dallas the balance between local and national is the same and Chi from 5AM - 6PM. The Show getting canned obviously changes that now.

The tread is slowly coming to an end for the day. It's down to a slow drip. Only 12 people on the thread right now.

Everybody expressed their pain and sorrow. It was a good release.

Hmmm. This was interesting. Silvy heard of Mac's situation. Kind of a weird way to respond by Silvy. Kind of an odd song he chose. Can't explain it. Well, it is Friday night and lights are low.

Here's Silvy's song

if Mac is in at the Score (and one can only hope) then Murph is as good as gone (and one can only hope)

Frequent reader, less frequent poster. I think Mac went to college with Less Frequent...

Some thought on what has happened.

As much as I like Carmen, Jurko and Harry, I do not think this will work. Mac not only kept Harry in place, he made sure Jurko was focused and an active participant. Whenever anyone else has sat in the big chair, Jurko does not seem as into the show, and Harry returns to his Harry & Spike persona.

To give Carmen a chance to succeed they need to either have JD sit in with him, or better yet have JD and Howard Griffith. Carm has good repartee with both of them, and it could be a good show. Keep Holmes in the bullpen because he is like Chet-only listenable in small doses.

I would not be surprised if Waddle and Silvy make the move to afternoons. ESPN put a lot of money and effort into signing Waddle, and would get more exposure for him in the afternoons. Then he wouldn't have to kill himself flying back from LA after his NFL network gig.

This is shocking to say the least. Well its certain Mac will have a big audience following him wherever he goes.

I'm curious when Jurko's deal expires. If I was Jurko and knew I could join up w/ Mac when i'm done @ ESPN I would be doing my best George Costanza impression.

It's too bad that satellite radio is a total shit hole that will be ending in a year or so (from someone who has been a subscriber for many years), Mac would be perfect for that entity. Even if it was a healthy company, SiriusXM love their east coast people and doubtful they would take someone from the Midwest.
