I got all your requests to have a chat with Mac. I sent him the request and told him whenever he is ready and if he wants to, we can do it. It will be posted here as to when it is, so everyone knows when.

P.S. So thats like a group response to all the PM's

At least Pastor won't try to stop him from posting here.

I'll be able to sleep knowing that, phew!

Now I can worry about the plane crash and the Canadian Geese that might be cause for a border war with the United States!

If they didn't pick up his contract, he is no longer obligated to the station. Pass-Hole has no say.

Mac was given some guidelines about what was allowed and what was not if he wanted to collect his checks until May.

He will be far more careful about what he says over the next few months then he was over the past few.

I have a strong feeling that Mac may spend the next 40 days in the Himalayas. In a cave. Time to recharge the Feng Shui. Then he will emerge and lead us, the great ones have that innate ability to move people from the inside out; to make the sports world a better place to listen. Looking forward to our Great Leap Forward.

Plus, travel is so cheap right now. I bet the Dahlai Lama would let him flop in one of his monasteries. Mac know people, he can get that done in a snap!

If that's the case, then this was not the contract not being renewed. Its a severance package.

No, his contract runs thru May.

Joe,

He will be paid according to the terms of his contract.

They are NOT obligated to put him on the air in order for him to collect the money.

Well, we are talking technicalities here now. The bottom line is that this was the station pulling the plug on Mac by not allowing him back on the air even though he has a contract through May. If it was a case of letting the contract run out, why wouldn't they let him back on the air? My point is that this is a dismissal and has nothing to do with Pastor's statement about the economy and wanting to "try new things" in the afternoon.

I am wondering if the "mothership" is cracking the whip on outspoken hosts. This same situation happened to Mark Madden at ESPN Radio 1250 in Pittsburgh. He made a comment about Ted Kennedy's brain tumor and was removed from the air immediately. Similar to Mac, Madden was kept off the air and continued to get paid on his current contract. I really think the column attacking Chicago sports media was the last straw. Say what you want about the article but Mac was right.

Political correctness sucks and that's what Bristol wants.

If it sucks, then take your talents down the dial to 670. He will be paid around 250K to look for a job. 30,000 folks at Circuit City lost jobs yesterday with no severance or cash going forward.
A little perspective here about who and what sucks is in order.

Why should they pay him to advertise himself for his next gig, as well as give him the opportunity to bash management on the air even more?

Why would they tell him now? Why not wait til the end of April to say we're not picking up your contract?

There is probably a requirement to give so many days' notice of either picking up or declining the option.

ENOUGH with the Hood crap. The guy sucks. He's brutal. I know he thinks he's funny and clever, but he does not know sports and often offers up ridiculously stupid opinions. I cannot stand to listen to that moron. He does a couple good impressions, that are at times pretty funny and thats it.

From what I read in the press release, now was the time for them to make their decision whether to exercise their option to renew. No doubt that period was specified in the existing contract.

No doubt the time from now to May is under non-compete clause, and perhaps some time post-May as well.

Given as this is "sports hell" time, the period for doing this isn't as bad as it seems.

Agreed. Hood is versatile. He used to talk hockey on Tuesday nights overnight at the Score, even when the team sucks. Gotta give the guy his props. Sometimes his stances are a little strange, but overall a good host.

Just because Mike Greenberg likes to talk about tennis doesn't mean that Mac has to follow suit.

I emailed him once after an extended period of hockey talk to ratchet it down a little and talk about the Bulls instead. He responded with a long winded email 'splaining that hockey fans are just as important or something along these lines and since it's a major sport played in this city he's going to give its fair share of his airtime.

Seacrest, you are completely missing my whole point. I'm speculating on what happened at 190 N. State on Friday following the show. There were reports out there that Mac's contract is not being renewed. All I'm saying is that there is more to it and it was a dismissal if you read between the lines. That was what I meant by a "severance package" vs. a non renewal. My statement has nothing to do with comparing a radio host's salary to people losing their jobs at Circuit City. Hell, a lot of us are up a creek in this economy and I feel bad for all of them just like the people that are losing their jobs at my company. As much as that sucks, it has nothing to do with this particular conversation. My favorite radio show is no more and I don't like it. That's all I'm talking about here.

If you like vanilla radio then stick with ESPN 1000 and follow Happy Homer Harry where everything is just dandy all the time. I personally want to hear my radio hosts calling things for what they are. I don't apologize for having an opinion.

And yes, political correctness sucks.

Has Mac replied to you on this ? I would not want to miss this and I am not even interested in asking a question.
