well we everyone saw it coming, but i still feel like given some time, he could be a pretty good ballplayer. it is interesting that olson is a guy that the padres wanted in a deal, so maybe we can fire up several threads on a possible peavy trade being back on.

Glad to see a deal with Baltimore. I just wish it had brought Brian Roberts here. They had to move Pie as they were out of options. The fact that they aquired a guy the Padres were clearly interested in, makes you go Hmmmmm.....

The CF of the future for a class A prospect. What a great move!

garrett olson's pretty ok. the o's already have a few other felix pie types, so i don't really understand the move from their end - they could use all the pitching they can handle, and olson was a much better fit for them than pie is now.

Come on, Frankie!
Don't you know the American League?
Olson, a lefty, is 25 and was fourth in the A.L.
in starts for a rookie last year.

No Cubs thread around here would be complete without (closet cub fan) Frank stirring the pot a little.

It is just part of the structure around here. Nod and smile at him and move along.

Good move. Cubs were out of options on Pie and now have more options of their own (pitching, bullben, trade,....Peavy?)

Hendry waited three years too long and he got Rich Hill in return (90 walks in 165 innings). Suits him right.

Care to share your reasoning on this one?

I looked over his stats and didn't see that.

But I don't think it matters, more than likely Hendry is stockpiling pitchers to go after Peavy.

90 walks and 210 hits in 165 innings pitched with a 6.87 ERA.

You're right, Rich Hill may actually be better.

Isn't that typical Hendry? He falls in love with someone and is always the last to know that he was wrong.
Can't trade Hill, can't trade Guzman, can't trade Pie.....no, no, no...they're the future.
The problem being that eventually he is right. You can't trade them because they fucking blow and nobody wants them.
Hendry is no great shakes, for sure.

He cant study the AL when he is too busy watching EVERY single move the Cubs make. He is worried more about the North Side team than the south side team.

To be fair, there isn't much to discuss with the pale hose. Kenny Williams has conducted about as quiet an offseason as I've ever seen from him. Getting the Cuban 3rd sacker might turn out to be a great move, but really, he hasn't done a great deal to discuss so far.

Kenny is typically very active in January and February.

Sometimes the best moves are the ones you don't make.

I would take Kenny's balls to make a move with the Cubs payroll any day(I hope I dont get quoted on this one). How many sure fire can't miss guys have the Cubs held onto too long and got shit in return?

Believe Joe Borchard may have been sold a little late.

 Not at all. Joe Borchard for Matt Thornton? You're saying the Sox could have ever gotten more than a solid lefty fireballer out of the pen for a bust of a OF prospect.

Agree, he was a bust, but certainly wasn't sold late. In fact, if he was sold any earlier, I doubt they would have been able to pick up a Thornton like arm for him.
