The Nets and Bulls have discussed a deal that would bring Larry Hughes to New Jersey in exchange for Bobby Simmons and Maurice Ager, according to league sources.

The Nets tried to include Sean Williams instead of Ager, but the Bulls weren't interested. Chicago is also speaking to other teams about trading Hughes, who hasn't played in the Bulls' past four games. There's a good chance he'll be moved before the February 19 deadline, so stay tuned.

I think Bobby Simmons coming home would hurt him...that guy is always at some club....

I'd take Sherell Ford right now over Hughes

Yes he is. When I used to go out I saw him pretty much every weekend during the offseason. Antoine Walker was the same way.

A lot of the Chicago ballers are that way....Shawn Marion, Dwyane Wade (they always say how he never plays good in Chicago...hmm I wonder why? :P ), Q Richardson, Steve Hunter.

Im surprised Pax isnt trying to trade for Stromile Swift. He loves the athletic tall guys who can't do anything when they are on the floor. But he can definitely "jump out of the gym".

He's already got an LSU guy that can jump out of the gym but can't do much :P

That being said, Tyrus Thomas has been playing a lot better as of late.

Darius Miles was available until recently. Maybe Pax was afraid because of the Trailblazers threats

How would a deal like this make the Bulls better? How would it get them closer to getting that star player? It looks like the Bulls would save about $3M but it doesn't help them beyond that. I would argue Hughes is a better player than the guy that had a locker next to mine.

It wouldn't make them better on the court, but they would probably like the financial savings. Right now, they are pressed up against the luxury tax.

How many years left on Bobby Simmons's contract? If it's anything other than 2 years, this deal makes no sense to me. Hughes has a lot of value right now because of when his contract expires. The Bulls aren't going to compete any time soon, so they may as well hold on to him or trade him for somebody that can actually contribute.

How do the Bulls & Nets make a deal if Larry Hughes continues to just sit there on the bench? At last check, yet another DNP-CD for #32 in Chicago white, red & black...

Playing time is not a prerequisite for a trade.

I don't know about that, but right now, I don't think you can get a 12 pack of Bud Light for Larry Hughes, RFDC. Chuck Swirsky & Bill Wennington said it about a week to 10 days ago that Hughes bitchin' and going public about lack of playing time will hurt whatever trade value he has. Maybe Pax can do what the Knicks have done with Stephon Marbury, continue to pay him and have Larry go away, far away!

The Bulls would save money in this deal. Their contracts expire next season.

before or after next season? If that's the case, then it's pretty much a garbage for garbage deal just trying to get rid of one headache for two guys that won't contribute. So, I guess it's worth it to save the $$$.

all other things being equal, Simmons is a far less edgy guy when it comes to lockerroom chemistry...

that being said, they're going nowhere this year so why not wait until next when Hughes has value?

This deal doesn't make much sense to me. He's in the Luol Deng mold without the athleticism to get to the rim. If he hadn't had the injuries, he wouldn't be traded. Simmons would make 10.6M next year and be off the books for 09/10. Ager will make 1.9M next year and 2.8M the year after and is ANOTHER GUARD!

These salary trades mean the Nets get are shit and we get the Nets shit! Look at next years free agents.Say we don't get Lebron or Wade there is still lot of players out there that can help this group out! 2010 is not just the Summer of LeBron: It's also the Summer of Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Tyson Chandler, Manu Ginobili, Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Redd, each of whom can become an unrestricted free agent in 2010.

If the trade becomes a reality, the Bulls won't be any closer to a playoff spot in the pisspoor Eastern Conference, and I'm not so sure there's any salary cap relief. The Bulls will have one less guard on their uneven roster. The potential deal now takes on added importance, albeit short term with Drew Gooden's nagging ankle & groin injury that kept him in street clothes last night vs. Atlanta, and Tyrus Thomas still inconsistent at best at power forward. If the deal becomes a reality, can Pax pull the trigger on a Kirk Hinrich deal next?

Trading Larry Hughes wouldn't the answer to that problem.

This isn't about getting closer to a play-off spot (this year anyway)...it's about getting rid of a player who would almost certainly become a malcontent as the season wears on. Hughes has no trade value given his salary, so it's an addition by subtraction move ala Ben Wallace. My sense is Del Negro is settling on an 8-9 man rotation which will include Noah & Thomas through the end of the season to see where they stand. Paxson will fill the end of the bench with players who will be happy to collect a pay-check while playing limited minutes. That means at least one more player goes by the deadline.

Right, that's my feelings on it as well. Skill wise and salary wise, Hughes & Simmons might be a wash, but if Hughes continues to rack up DNP-CD's, he's going to cause unnecessary distractions (as if he hasn't already). I think you're correct in that Simmons would probably have no issue playing 12 minutes a game during mop up duty as long as he's cashing a check. I think one has to be extra cautious with someone young and impressionable like Rose being the center of your franchise, you don't need any clubhouse cancers steering him in the wrong direction.

I just thought about it....don't we already have a Simmons on the team that's in the same mold?
