Walt, the Yankees aren't getting Manny, even though they probably could afford to get the slugger. Ramirez & agent Scott Bora$ continue to drag their feet though as far as the lack of negotiations are concerned. Even though the Giants have offered a reported 4 year deal, according to CBS affiliate KPIX-TV in San Francisco, all indications seem to point back to Los Angeles for #99. Unfortunately though, Ramirez & Bora$ are dreaming if they're going to see more than the 2 year offer the Dodgers initially offered. Based on what I overheard on MLB Network's "Hot Stove" show last night, once Manny FINALLY signs, the surprisingly large list of other unsigned free agents will soon sign on the dotted line. Needless to say, there are quite a few, and Ken Rosenthal on FOXsports.com spotlights one of the many guys available, Diamondbacks' free agent Orlando Hudson, who's getting no takers at all.

I thought Hudson was on the Sox radar. I wasn't saying the Yankees will sign Manny its just their fandom thinks he is the missing key.Where I think they need more pitching!

Walt, I thought Orlando Hudson was on the White Sox radar, but keep in mind that this country is stuck in a recession, and teams everywhere aren't going to pay outrageous contracts like the Yankees have done with C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett & Mark Teixeira. The Yankees have a salary structure unlike any other team in Allan H. Selig's Major League Baseball and have unlimited resources that others can only dream. Unless Hudson wants to sign, say a one-year, incentive-filled contract for considerably less money, there's no market for a second baseman that had each of the last 2 seasons in Arizona cut short due to injury.

Fans, the Boston Red Sox have reportedly given their captain a deadline. According to WEEI SportsRadio in Boston, veteran captain, catcher Jason Varitek, has been given a Friday deadline to accept the Sox offer of $5 million this season, with an option for 2010. Varitek's agent is, you guessed it, Scott Bora$. Meanwhile, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal says that second baseman Brian Roberts wants a 4 year extension for him to remain with the Baltimore Orioles. The O's have offered a 3 year, $30 million extension to keep Brian in Baltimore, according to the Baltimore Sun. The O's might lean towards free agent second baseman Orlando Hudson if talks break down with Roberts.
