Wow, what a terrible fall this guy has had. I still think he will come around at some point and be a decent number 3 or 4. Someone just needs to help the guy along with whatever is going on with his head.

Sadly, the only memories of him are game 3 two years back.

Man McFail has a hardon for getting washed up Cubs prospects. I even think Luis Montanez was bouncing around the Orioles organization a few years back.

Montanez came up as an OF for Baltimore at the end of last year and played pretty well.

They're waiting for their minor league pitchers to develop (Tillman, Matusz, Patton, Arrieta). May as well give a couple long shots a chance while they're waiting.

I don't fault them for not trading Rich Hill back then. When you think you have a young quality pitcher as it appeared Hill was, you do not trade him.

The same way the Sox won't trade Floyd or Danks for Roberts or anyone else.

Them 2 have proven themselves though, moreso than Hill did. I could see the Sox trading, say, Lance Broadway for a Brian Roberts type.

Regardless, 2 big prospects are 2 big failures. Maybe a change of scenery will do both guys well.

faith hill and donyell marshall would serve the cubs better than little ole rich and sean...junkballers and batting practice tossers off. 1 in 15 lefties are of any real value for more than once thru the line up.

I love the Sportscenter radio updates that kept calling him "former 18-game winner Rich Hill."

I agree with you that Marshall kind of gets the shaft around here he has been pitching well for the Cubs for a few years now. I would be perfectly happy to see him as the 5th starter. That being said lets get them all into camp and let nature take its course. I trust Lou to find the right guy for the job.

for me, it's another oppurtunity to watch a lefty go out and last 4 2/3 innings. garner an ERA of 5.55, a WHP of 1.65 and expose the bullpen. I hope Lou can figure that out early. Oh and lots of long home runs to be thrown back on to the field. Solid.

If Hill had done lousy (which he did) at just one level of Baseball last season, it would be one thing. But he did terrible at the major league level, AAA level, AA, Single A and rookie league, as well as in the Fall leagues. At every stop, he had control problems too. They had to dump him and move on. Marshall did a nice job last year and deserves a long look at that 5th starters spot. Less than 2 weeks from now, spring training will be in full swing. Thats just a beautiful thing to think about.
