Never been so frustrated with fellow concert-goers at a live show. Okay, I know the Elton John crowd is going to have its share of blue hairs... but this was an amazingly dead group. E.J. played his hits. There was only one tune I didn't know.

He invited the first five rows on stage to huddle around the red Yamaha piano for "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting." I was in Row 11... center cut. As I am a rocker... I stood... foot tappin' and clapping. Quickly was yelled at by a couple two rows back. "Sit down," the Geritol takers insisted. After hearing it a second time, I turned around and made eye contact and they yelled it again. To the chagrin of my wife, I flipped 'em off and told 'em they were at a rock show and that Tony Bennett was down the street. Dejectedly, with no company willing to stand, I sat back down.

I know it's not the Stones or AC/DC or Pearl Jam... but "S.N.A.F.F.," "The Bitch Is Back" and a few others are rockers. I am a rocker and I prefer to stand at a rockin' show. This crowd would have none of it. I felt bad for the band that the crowd was so dead. E.J. even motioned to the audience a time or two for a little response. Nothing.

Positive: the Colisseum (that's how they spell it) at Caesar's Palace is an awesome venue. And the show was solid. Elton was funny between songs. Very interactive. Played a good chunk of his hits and it was a well-produced stage presentation. Orginial members Nigel Olsson (drums) and Davey Johnstone are still with Reginald. Bumped into the bass player in a casino the following night and enjoyed a beverage with him. Happy for me?

I don't care if its ACDC, Elton John, or James Taylor. If people are into it and they chose to stand and "rock out" thats thier choice. For anybody else to yell sit down is unacceptable. If you want to sit down and enjoy the show, pony up the coin to get a skybox, or buy a DVD at sit on your couch.

You are a better man than me Danny. I couldn't take the ridicule for going to see EJ, although from what I hear his concerts with Billy Joel back in the day were outstanding. As for the bluehairs, what the hell were they doing up so late anyhow? Did bingo and keno close early?

Did you stay at Casers Palace? If so how did you like the rooms? I was wanting to put a mirror on the ceiling in my bedroom, but the wife killed that idea.

I can see Mac holding Sherri's hand during "Candle in the Wind" and holding his lighter up in the air all the time saying "Man if the guys on the message board saw this they'd be calling me a pussy".

Well you pussy you'd be right! The next thing Mac will be attending is the "Air Supply" show in Hammond.

I can almost hear him humming the words softly to himself as he envisions the wifey running through a field of daisies to his open arms..

Then he pulls a Tommy Boy and lands on her - lol.

Sorry was too easy...

Elton was a good show, except at the end when all the 8' inflatable phallic symbols started appearing. At that point Mac and Boers holding hands would have been more appropriate.

Looks like you can rely on your own eyes and ears to judge . . . at Wrigley.

Yep... Mackey can lower his standards this summer and go see 'Billy John' as the guy on the Score called him during an update on Murph's Show today.

Billy Joel and Elton John touring again - this time at Wrigley's Beer Garden.

In the same trip a couple of years ago I saw Celine Dion, Barry Manilow and penn/Teller. And I saw Billy J at the Sears Center a couple of years ago.

Was with the wife. I know I'm a Pussy. Hopefully seeing AC DC and Disturbed in the last couple of years gets my penis back.

Penn & Teller were very disappointing. Wife got back at me with the other Vegas shows.

it's not just vegas or the blue hair crowd that don't like people standing, Mac. It happens at Chicago concerts too. I have had people yell at me at the United Center for standing during the Stones and Clapton, and yelling at a group of us at Toyota Park for standing during the guitar fest. The people yelling at us were in almost every case younger than us and saying if we want to stand up we should be in the mosh pit. My friends from out of town asked if this was a Chicago thing that the seats are for sitting and the non-reserved section in front was for standing. I guess a lot of people, of various ages, go to concerts these days, no matter the town or venue, to sit on their ass and expect nobody in front of them to disrupt their vision.
