Micah Hoffpauir hits a game winning grand slam in the Cactus league opener and ES isn't here demanding a Lee trade? No anus licking? What the hell happened Steve? If you're under duress, post a secret message. If there's trouble say, "The rain in Spain falls mainly in Barcelona, meteroigically speaking".

Wow, and I was thinking the same thing.
Is this a bromance? It feels so strange and exciting.

He's too busy dealing with the hangover after the euphoria of seeing that Dan McNeil made a post about him.

Either that or he hasn't got over B&B dismissing him yet.

The important thing is he is not posting. Does the reason behind it really matter?

I've just been real busy. Being newly married and all, is one factor. Another, is that business has picked up and I'm out of the office a lot these days. I was listening to the broadcast of the game while working and very happy to see Micah get the big hit. Happy and not a bit surprised. I wish they could just put Hoffpauir at first and use Lee off the bench. But you can't pay him 13.5 Million and just use him off the bench. Lee hit 3rd on the team that scored more runs than anyone else in the league and had the most at bats on the team, yet got just 90 RBI and hit into more DP's than anyone in baseball last year. Meanwhile, Hoffpauir had 25 Homers and 100 RBI in just 289 AB's in AAA and hit something like .348 with the Cubs. I'm sure he would put up better numbers than Lee right now. But the salary will dictate who plays, even if Hoffpauir is the better choice. The guy can just plain rake. He deserves the spot. I just hope Lee is a lot better this year than last season. The guy gets too much of a pass. He's a nice guy and a very good 1st baseman, but he should catch a whole lot more flak for his hitting...or lack thereof.

"Micah Hoffpauir hits a game winning grand slam in the Cactus league opener and ES isn't here demanding a Lee trade?"

From what Terry's Cubs peep told him, Lee was put on the block and had no takers.

Can't believe there isn't a market for a guy who's making thirteen mil a year with no power.

Terry's peeps? You can take that with a grain of salt.

Agreed. I think they also told him Grossman wouldn't be re-signed.

There's Cub fans on one board saying Bradley shouldn't have been signed Hoffpauir should be the everyday right fielder! Or trade Lee and make him the 1st baseman!

There is a reason he's a 29 year old rookie although I think he will make a good backup this year.

Did the same people who told Terry Lee was going to be traded tell him the head coach at Notre Dame would be fired? (sorry his name escapes me).

Elmhurst did Lee sleep with your new wife?

There's a reason Hoffpauir is a 29 year old rookie. I admit I would have been open to trading Lee but if we got a proven major leaguer to replace him not Hoffpauir.

And we're fine if Lee goes down and we need Micah for a few weeks. But not for any length of time.

They do not bench Lee because he is the best 1st baseman on the roster.

Hoffpauir is 29 years old tomorrow. Yes he has had great springs. But so did Gary Scott and Kevin Orie.

Or Steve are you saying because Lee does not play up to the 13 million we should go with a lesser player that makes less?

Does anyone honestly believe that if one went to another team and both played a full season Lee wouldn't outperform Hoffpauir in every category?

Derrick Lee sucked in every month except April. How many inning ending double plays does a guy have to hit into before people realize this. He is the worst 3 hitter in baseball.

he was pretty good at the plate in october. too bad he and derosa were the only ones.

derrick lee is fine. the alarm about how terrible he is is amusing. the alarm about how he should be moved out of the way for micah hoffpauier is mind-numbing.
