There have only been 2 or 3 right handed hitters that have ever played the game who were better than Frank Thomas.

Gordon Beckham will not fall into that category.

Frank Thomas and Babe Ruth are the only guys in history to put up 30HRs, .300 avg, and 100 runs, hits, walks, and RBIs for 5 straight seasons.

Its a true statement.

In my baseball watching lifetime from 1987-Present Three right handed hitters stand far above anyone else

Frank
Manny
Pujols

Nobody on that list did what Frank Thomas did in the early 90s.

They are close, but they all fall below 100 in at least one category. I'm not taking anything away from them, they are all most likely first ballot HOF'ers, but imo, Frank was better. He was without question the best right handed hitter in baseball in his prime.

Frank in his prime (early- mid 90s) was better than Arod, Manny, Pujols, and maybe even Aaron. Hank is the HR champ, but other numbers Frank might have been better.

for a 5-7 year period frank was as good a right handed hitter as anyone ever. i doubt he was juicing, but who knows. i have do not doubt, however, that others referred to in this thread were/are "enhanced."

over a 15-20 year career, he was not the best. plus he was a DH because he was too lazy/embarrassed to work on his defense. the guy may have had the worst arm in baseball history.

frank was one of, if not the only one, who was publicly criticizing the union's anti-testing policy. he WANTED drug testing. this was 10-12 years ago. now that could be a masterful plot to make people think he wasn't juicing when he really was, but he doesn't seem that cunning to me.

secondly, pujols has been associated with a trainer who gave PEDs to others. my opinion, from watching baseball for 30 years, is that it is not humanly possible to hit a ball as hard as pujols does without some help. maybe he is a freak of nature but all of the other "freaks" turned out to be phonies. i'm just going with the historical trend.

Big Frank was the only superstar outspoken against Roids.

He was also always big, played football at Auburn. As Frank got closer to 30, his numbers dropped off and he got hurt more, something that is supposed to happen as a big guy gets older.

hard to say with manny. he wears a tent and always has so its impossible to see any changes to his body. i wouldn't be surprised either way.

i think frank had a greater 5 year peak (two mvps too).
