Fans, I'm looking to take some studio pictures with my son in the next couple of weeks. He's 3 and since he hasn't had any studio shots taken in a couple of years, it's time to get some updated photos taken. I barely remember any of the specifics of the last time we took him, which is why I started this thread.

In my area, the only options are Glamour Shots, The Picture People and Olan Mills. We went to The Picture People last time and they took some good shots but I'll be damned if I can remember how much it cost. Are there other alternative places I should be looking at? Any negative experiences with any of these places?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Most of the department stores (Sears and Penneys at least) have portrait studios that will be MUCH cheaper than Olan Mills.

Sears has always worked well with our family. They are just as good as pics from Olan Mills, etc and much cheaper.

Some Targets have a studio too.

If you want to wait a little longer and know anybody with a good eye for it you could go to a park or someplace like the morton arboretum or zoo and take some pictures. Some of my favorite pictures are from there.

My wife has all the kid's photos done at Picture People. They do really good work. We do our family portraits there too...

The nice thing about Sears vs. Olen Mills or whatever is that you don't have the copyright shit on your pics and you can take em into Walmart, scan and copy em. El Cheapo!

I took my daughter to the Wal Mart in Tinley and I was extremely happy with the results.

The price was economical. The photographer was great.
All around great experience

We used to go to JC Penney's. Then one year we went to Wal-Mart for Christmas pictures. That wasn't too bad.

 And I would bet that every single one of us has some old photos of our families that look just like some of those.

Personally, it's all in the photographer at the end of the day, but we've had fine experiences at Penney's and Sears but you wait weeks for the pictures. Not a bigfan of Picture People because they don't have many props or backgrounds (they all usually have the plain white backdrop). Kiddie Kandids are in some babies r us do a nice job but can get pricey.

I do penney's alot. The nice thing about penney's if you go on their photo site and sign up for e-mails you get tons of coupons, and i think some parenting magazines have their coupons as well as sears. We take alot of pictures there as there is a photographer that we like to work with and actually have followed her from another penney's and picture people. Picture people is nice but can get pricey unless you get coupons from them.
Also the nice thing about penney's is their portrait club does have some good benefits.
Here is a link to thier website.

Also kid, i have some extra coupons here at the house if you want them, just pm me your address and i can post them tommorrow

My wife and I have went to Sears a few times and have been happy with their work...The nice thing is...you can get a CD of the fotos that they take if you want to use some shots as wallpaper on your computer.
