The "big" portest at Wrigley was Saturday. The Cubs drew the largest crowd they've had since 1978 and the protest drew flies. This is after all the publicity the score hosts gave the organizers. Here's a quote from the organizer:

"i feel defeated. only because i didn't get the turnout i was hoping for. maybe 15 people. we were all on the score for 2 weeks, but not a big turnout for support"


I'd say that the station has very little influence on events as reflected by the poor ratings. The self importance of the hosts is just that -self importance, because it is obvious they really are not important when it comes to anything other than their own BS. Nice job score.

Mind you, I don't listen much to the daytime, weekday shifts anymore. Which considering what they have on evenings and weekends, in-between the Sox games, there's not much on that's must-listen radio...

You're blaming the Score because Cub fans didn't protest ? There's a lot to bash the Score about, but I don't think this is one. I just think it's pretty hard to schedule a protest for a baseball team regardless of the air time they get on the Score.

I reiterate: I never heard of this protest, and, it doesn't surprise me that a station at the bottom of the ratings pile can't get the job done - I'm Loving It! And say hi to the bottom-feeders Rosen & Agase for me.

I know I could get more than 15 to gather without any mention on the score. They bash the Cubs all day long and obviously they couldn't even get a few of their listeners to turn out. Sad commentary on the lack of influence and importance of the station.

I think the organizers should have been pounding, not just the Score but ESPN and all the other non-Tribune owned outlets if they really wanted to get the word out. To rely on just one station was stupid.

It just looks like 2 weeks of free advertising and no results.

I heard about the protest once, either earlier this week or last week sometime with Mulligan and Hanley. I never heard about it again, but granted, I haven't listened to much sports radio on either side of the dial lately.

I don't think the Score should be blamed by the lack of turnout for the protest. I thought the protest was a lame idea. Anytime you are asking people to turnover tickets they most likely have already is never really an idea of gold.

The Score didn't really cover or promote this "protest." Mully & Hanley had the organizer on twice and gave the e-mail address out. The organizer also said that he got 77 e-mails the day he was on the Score. For as many Cub fans who seem to have a beef with ownership, that seemed like a small number to me.

I do feel bad for this guy that he only got 15 people to show up. I'm sure he put in a fair amount of effort and got zero payoff.

The crowds at Wrigley all weekend should tell the world (and TribCo) everything they need to know about the people who go to Wrigley Field...note, I did not say Cub fans. The Cubs are the midst of a horrible slump and they still sold out 3 sun soaked days at the ballyard. Winning means ZERO to the majority who attend Cub games.

You are correct Hummer and it just chaps my ass. Most of these fools don't know shit about baseball. I don't think it will go on forever though. If the Sox continue to be successful, things will change over the next few years. The idiots will grow older and they will not be replaced by the younger generation. Kids love a winner and I think the children coming of baseball age during this time will throw their allegiance to the South Side.

The Cub will not win until they are sold to an owner that wants to win baseball games. Not a failing corporation that needs money from every division it can get it from.

As a Sox fan, I want the Cubs to get back into the playoffs and quick in the next two years. This should keep the bandwagon jumpers off the Sox and the fraternity boys out of the Cell.

This only proves that people are fans of the ballpark, bars, the vines, old people showing you to your seats.. That's what they come to see not the team on the field..

People who listen to the Score can't afford the gas money to drive down to Wrigley to see a game let alone protest at one .. I ought to know I'm one of them !!
