I will wait to hear what the Chicago Bulls as an organization do for him before my full blown rant of why nothing has been done to date.

It should've been retired years ago just so Greg Anthony wouldn't have been able to wear it.

What about Brad Sellers?

Chairman Asswipe should have taken care of this years ago. I hope he feels like shit today. Norman never got the respect he deserved from the organization.

And Bigfan......flame away. Don't wait for their reactive move after Stormin's passing. They should have been proactive years.

I voted yes to this poll question...It's long overdue. As for the current #2, I wonder if Tim Thomas will sport a different jersey number when they face the Wizards this eve in D.C.

No. To do it now would be an empty gesture.

They should forget hanging jerseys and just get the dead bodies of Norm and Red, mummify them, but them behind glass in a ceremony while playing the Rolling Stones song "Angie" on the loud speakers, with a couple empty tomatoe paste cans filled with talcum, so the fans can do the whole baby powder tyhing in Reds face, similar to what Jordan did, for all eternal.

That would increase ST's quicker than Paxsons mismanagement of talent.

The Rolling Stones music sounds like a really good idea, Supercup. Norm was definitely into classic Stones & Led Zeppelin when he wasn't breaking down a Bulls' game...

So then with Norms passing, you could say the Bulls pre game show is having a "Communication breakdown"?

"Communication Breakdown" could be the theme song for the current Bulls & last year's Bears among other teams...

Norm's number doesn't deserve to be retired. He only played 7 years for the Bulls. That's not long enough for a team to retire your jersey. He was a decent player. Not great. His teams never won a title although they came close. He was the 3rd best player on a couple of good teams.

He played 10 years and finished with the Bucs. Anybody know why Norm retired at age 31?

Should Horace Grant's number be retired?

He played 7 years for the Bulls, was the 3rd best player on a team that won 3 titles. I'd say he was similar to Norm. Maybe Norm was a little better but Horace has the rings.

Are we going to retire his number because he died? That's stupid.

Didn't the Celtics and the Nets retire Reggie Lewis and Drazen Petrovic's numbers?

Well, I think they died while on the active roster. That's different. Bill Masterton of the North Stars died from an in-game injury, so his number is retired.

Put the jersey up on the rafters because he was

1) An above average player. An assist leader. The anti-prima donna. The 74-75 Bulls that took Rick Barry's Warriors to 7 games was like ROCKY I(One )--he was like the QB

2) A great analyst from the championship years thru now. A great media presence. Probably disliked by management for not being as positive as Red, but loved by the fans for "telling it like it is".

3) One of the best ambassadors for a Chicago team to the fans , Real and direct. Great old school role model with Chicago character. Rock & roll bar-hopping ,he was one of us.

Along with Red, Norm deserves an appropriate memorial as one of the best.

2 and 3 aren't reasons to retire numbers, and "above average" isn't good enough for retirement. They probably should have retired it before, but to do so now would just be reactive and not worth it.

1, 2, and 3 , either reason alone is not enough to get retired, but those 3 factors TOGETHER puts him over the top in my book. The guy was an above average player and ambassador for the franchise. Its not like retiring Ronnie Woo Woo for Wrigley. More like retiring Santo. It should have been done while he was alive, but if it takes REACTIVE efforts to get it done, so be it. Considering that he was blackballed from Kerr Nite a few weeks ago, for whatever reason, I doubt if he was in the good graces of Jerry Reinsdorf. It probably won't happen.

Its a week or two later, but I haven't seen this posted anywhere else.

Back on 2/28/2009 Dave Kaplan went off . No current Bulls players attended Norm's funeral. Bulls management isn't John McDonough. I didn't catch the actual rant, but the WGN morning show followed up on it. Here's the link to it.
