It begins! Marmol should have never been the closer. Switch Dempster back to that spot he has a track record! Panic! Panic!

Marmol should be the setup guy. Have him come in to get the big outs in the 7th and 8th with guys on base and have Gregg start the 9th with the bases empty.

Marmol can't help it if Willie Aybar can't field a ground ball and makes an error, which is how the winning run scored . There were 2 errors in the inning and Marmol pitched fine. Take away the errors and it's another good job by Marmol. He will be an intregal part of the bullpen and do a great job....most of the time. Like most pitchers, he will likely have a rough outing or two, at some point in the season. But I expect barring injury, he will once again, be a dominant force out of the bullpen.

From Rosenthal's column.....

Marmol, meanwhile, had difficulty deciding whether to pitch for the D.R. or remain with the Cubs and continue his competition with Kevin Gregg for the closer's role. He could be an emotional wreck when he rejoins the club. The season is nearly a month away, and the Cubs already are in crisis.

Nooooooo! This season is quickly spiraling out of control! Too many losses accumulating, this could lead to bad team chemistry! Winning needs to be a habit! Lou needs to shake up this lineup, and fast! Get rid of Lee! Start Hoffpauir! Marmol is clearly in big trouble! He needs to get back to camp and focus! He is mentally weak, he won't be able to shake off that tough WBC outing! It will haunt him throughout the season! This team can't score runs! Soriano can't lead off again! Fukudome is the worst thing since UNsliced bread!

Friends, this team is in deep shit! Hopefully, together, we can make it through the year! Anything less than a 4-0 sweep in the World Series is complete and total failure!

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

PANIC! PANIC!! PANIC!!!

Why do I have the feeling the same people who want to bench Lee for Hoffpauir are the same ones panicking over Marmol blowing a save in a meaningless game?

I have no idea....I want Lee benched for Hoffpauir, but have absolutely no worries about Marmol. Besides, there were 2 errors, including one on the ball hit to score the winning run. Willie Aybar erred on the groundball to first that should have ended the inning. If people are going to get in a panic, at least they should get the facts straight. It's not like he was getting tattooed.

gregg has looked very impressive so far. i dont think it is a stretch that he slides right into the closer role vacated by wood.
