Heh, Goose...

Ofman and Heubner had the same problem: lots of seniority as update guys. Heubner had it worse, being a co-host for Murph's morning show as well as North's. Who wants to pay host salaries for update guys/who wants to do updates when you were cohosting for a few years?

So, yeah, Murph's the remaining on-air original, with Terry being a virtual day-one.

Shark: was referring to Telanders days when the Score started, not the later abortion of an afternoon show. Geez, the only one coming out the latter well was Mully.

Had a long talk with Fred, and the basics are obviously that the Score was trimming PR. They tried to get both of them to quit by only scheduling them as update guys, and when that didn't work knocking them to the shifts they both hated...George in the morning and Fred in the afternoon. Blatant attempt to get them to quit and when that didn't work they just didn't renew 'em. They're both happier working for North because he's going to pay them pretty good paper, at least to start. George especially got the shaft...working there from the beginning and just one day...you're gone. Nothing. As much as I love listening to the Score, it's run by trained monkeys. And that's insulting to trained monkey's everywhere. Murph is obviously next. I don't think they'll even offer him a move to nights.

Interesting stuff, CoF. But I don't think Score management is the villain here because they're taking orders from CBS executives who want to cut payroll throughout the company. This is why I'm skeptical of a Mac return to the Score--at least at the price he wants. If he's back, it'll be for less than 350K/yr.

I think Mac ends up working for what it takes to work at the Score, within reason. But who knows.

Fred did assume Mac would end up at the Score. He also assumed that Murph would end up with North if the station follows through in not renewing him in April. Think about it...if Nort would also go after a radio station to carry his stuff, I think you'd see ESPN have a big time problem on their hands outside of Silvy and Waddle...Fred and Murph together are proven winners in the sportsradio game.

Oh I definitely think Murph will end up with North. It's clear he won't be back when his contract expires. I'm still not sold on Mac's return to the Score, though, but who knows. Everyone else seems to think it's a done deal.

Good point
COF, but why would a station pay him for the programming, why wouldn't they just sell him the air time? No costs for the station and just revenue. I don't see anyone willing to pay for that programming lineup, but I could see a lower power station rent out the time to him.

Murph's contract is up in April? Webio starts in April. The on-air staff is set. So Fred thinks that North is gonna fire somebody in the first month to make room for Murph? They're gonna eat that contract and pay Murph?

That would be almost too good to be true. It's like somebody rounded up all the Score hosts who made my ears bleed (North, Fred, Jesse, George), and shipped them off to the internet.

Murph's target demographic isn't on the Internet. He wouldn't make that move.

I was on 670thescore.com a short time ago, and noticed Brian Paruch's name listed prominently on this week's "On Air Schedule". The guy I still refer to as "The Whipping Boy", not "The King", has pinch hit for Mike Murphy each of the last 2 days. He'll pinch hit again tomorrow Noon-2p for "Murph", and will also pinch hit for Laurence Holmes between 10a-Noon alongside "Stuttering" Dan Hampton while LoHo continues his own vacation. If that's not enough, Brian's hosting "White Sox Weekly" for Chris Rongey Saturday morning leading up to Day 3 of Westwood One's national coverage of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Hmmm...

He must be playing the role of Bryan "Good Times!" Dolgin doing "SportsCenter" during "Waddle & Silvy"...
