Dumb timeout by Vinnie with about three minutes left. They sucked after that and pulled it out by the skin of their teeth. Good games by Salmons, Rose, Gordon, Thomas and Miller.

Couple things:

Salmons > Deng. In the off season, they must look to move Deng, even if it's a clear salary dump. Same with Hinrich. Third guards should not be making that much money. This would most likely result in Salmons opting out after the 2010 season, which would give the Bulls more money to play with.

They might need to decide on Tyrus Thomas as soon as this season ends. Either sign him to a decent extension(e.g. 4yrs/$32M), or look to make a trade. Reason I say this is, if you're trying to get a full boat superstar FA in 2010, Tyrus will have a cap hold if he doesn't sign an extension. Some of you may not like that deal, but I believe it's fair value, and perhaps if his agents believe he could benefit from a team failing to sign one of the big names and wind up with a 5/65 deal, they could avoid to do the extension. I'm not sure if Phoenix still would want to move Amar'e or if they can(they should be able to) get a better package, but the Bulls should give it another look.

I think they're really fucked with that contract. It's pretty clear to me you're right though: Salmons is just a lot tougher than Deng, and basically does everything else as well as Deng.

I don't see how they could salary dump in the NBA.

I mean, unless they trade for expiring contracts. But who would trade their expiring contracts for Deng? When they could just let them expire after a year and sign a better free agent than Deng.

i hated that deng contract from the start. deng is not worth the money he makes at all. he will never be the player paxson thinks/thought he would be. he has hit his ceiling. john salmons is 10x the player deng is. atleast i can give credit to paxson for dumping garbage on sacramento for miller and salmons

You're stuck with Deng. The only way you can move him is to take on another equally shitty player with a contract that will go past 2010 since no one is going to trade away an expiring contract before that year. The only one that comes to mind is Emeka Okafor who's scheduled to make 12M a year until 2014.

I'd make that deal but Charlotte probably wouldn't.

Yeah that would be a great trade for the Bulls. He would be the inside presence they need.

I was actually thinking Okafor still sucked :-) Looks like he's having a pretty good year at 14/10.

How about this one better:

Marko Jaric at 8M a year through 2011
