Listening to Waddle & Silvy just now, I heard about several informal polls collected on 20 Cubs players; Hoffpauir got considerable mention when asked:

1. who's the Cubs most clutch hitter
2. who's the Cubs best power hitter
3. who's the Cubs best pure hitter

I was somewhat taken aback by that. That's a lotta Hoffpauir love to be coming from the Cubs clubhouse. Good. Hopefully he can replace Lee sooner than later.

The fact that a 29 year old minor leaguer is under considerable consideration for the Cubs most clutch hitter explains alot of the lack of success that the Cubs have had in the postseason recently if you ask me.

It wasn't in the clubhouse it was polls on Cubs players not of Cubs players.

They don't tell you the poll was taken during the Hoffpauir family reunion.

Considering Ramirez is the answer to at least 2 of the 3. (best power and clutch) not sure about who is the best power hitter. Actually it probably would be Derrek Lee.

D Lee the best power hitter?

Ummm no. Aramis, Soriano, Bradley, and Soto are all better power hitters right now than Lee.

for pure power, soriano is the best, hands down. ramirez is the best all-around hitter in my opinion. lee isnt even in the team picture for best power hitter.

Agreed - although I don't think Hoff is the answer - Lee is fading and fast.

I'm going to bring a sign to Wrigley this year that says "Don't hassle the Hoff-pauir".

I think the answer and maybe not this year - might be Jake Fox.

If Jake Fox is the answer than the question must be who is the latest Cubs power hitting prospect to hit in the minors but is unable to translate his success to a major league career?

See Kelton, David.....Kieshnick, Brooks and Choi, Hee Seop.

If you define "pure hitting" as "hitting the ball right to the shortstop/second baseman," Lee is undoubtedly the Cubs best pure hitter.

He is quite adept at finding infielders with the ball at inopportune times...

Almost always the SS.

I'm not a bit surprised at the respect Hoffpauir has developed from his peers. They know he is a very good hitter. They also would tell you (if it wouldn't ever get reported) that Micah is the best guy to play 1st everyday. Hoffpauir has a great swing and power as well. I just hope Lou gives him a legitimate shot at taking over the position. Screw the 13.5 million Lee makes. The best player should start.

we are lucky to have a guy like you steve, who is in the clubhouse every day, telling us the pulse of the team.

who does the team tell you should be the closer?

This poll was not of Cubs players but on Cubs players.

Must have been taken at the Society for Baseball Idiots.

Maybe they meant best of all 3 on the Cubs bench which unfortunately looking at their bench is being the tallest midget.

I also saw a survey like this a couple of months ago that he was the best in the Cubs minor league system. This might be the poll they refer to.

Again it was not of the Cubs players it was on the Cubs players.

It would be like if we took a survey of our thoughts on Chicago radio personalities. It would be a survey on them not of them.

When Waddle and Silvy covered this, they said the survey was one taken BY the players themselves. The results are derived from the players responses.

In researching the facts, it was from an article in the Sun Times that states that the results were gathered from answers given by 20 Cubs players...so it was in fact the players themselves, who supplied the opinions from which the story was derived.

i've decided something trumps the Hoffpauir lovefest.

People who think the Bears shouldn't get Cutler because they have Orton.

There are other reasons maybe but not because we have Orton.

On the brink of another shutout, Hoffpauir delivers a solid line drive to right to score a run and send the runner on 1st all the way to 3rd, where he is left, as the game ends. Maybe Lou will wake up and stop worrying about getting something out of the 13.5 million dollar 1st baseman (D. Lee) who doesn't hit well enough anymore and get more at bats for a guy who deserves them-HOFFPAUIR!!! He led the team and all major leaguers in spring training in runs batted in for a good reason...he's a good hitter. Lee led the league last season in hitting into double plays and is hitting about .220 now for a reason....he isn't real good anymore. It's like the Cubs bought 2 cars. One cost a lot of money and keeps breaking down. but they keep pouring money into it and tring to drive it anyway. The other one runs great, when it's taken out for a spin, but they just insist on continuing to drive the bad one, trying to justify the money spent on it.
