Comcast SportsNet stunned the local sports world late last night by announcing a name change to the cable network. Here in Chicago, Comcast SportsNet will now be called The Mike North Channel.
Jon Litner, President & CEO of Comcast SportsNet made the announcement at a press conference last night while here visiting the regional branch of the Comcast Network. Litner, with a smiling North at his side, had this to say about the name change: "Here in Chicago, there are a few names that are synonymous with local sports -- Payton, Banks, Hull, Ditka -- and North. Since when all Chicagoans think about sports, they think about North, it only made sense to name this great station after the man himself, Mike North."
North along with partner Dan Jiggetts' is on CSN/MNC each weekday morning doing his "Monsters in the Morning" TV show. A highlights show will soon air in the evenings, as well.
A grinning Mike North added this at the press conference, "Holy Geez! Can youse guys believe this? Out-standing! I mean, it's not like I don't deserve this or anything, but WHOAH! What an honor, huh?"
In addition to his "Monsters in the Morning" show on the new Mike North Channel, North also recently announced that his new ChicagoSportsWebio.com Internet sports-talk radio venture will launch April 6. He also has a sports-book website, a new autobiography coming out in May and is widely expected to be easily voted in as the next Mayor of Chicago.
"Hey! Not bad for a hot dog salesman who somehow schmoozed his way into a radio gig many years ago, huh?" North added.
Yes, "Pappy," not so bad at all.
Congratulations you have earned a nomination for
