This is a huge huge day for the Chicago Bears and fans alike and I was trying to get some prespective about where exactly Jay Cutler is in terms of QB rankings. In your thoughts, who is a better QB than Jay Cutler. Is he 5th on your list, 10th? Im trying to think of guys better than him, and yeah a few come to mind, but Im trying to get other peoples opinion too.

Manning
Brady
Brees
Romo
Ben Roethlisberger
Maybe Phillip Rivers
I would say he is no lower than 6th or 7th. And right now with his age I would put him a few steps ahead of McNabb(who could still bring it)

All I know is, Cutler's the best QB this franchise has had in my lifetime.

Rivers is a different QB entirely. So i think its easy to look at his numbers last year and make an arguement for him, but when you take into account the natural ability, and type of QB Cutler is, he is clearly more talented than Rivers.

All in their 30s. Romo, E Manning, Rogers, Ryan and Cutler are the QBs of the future in the NFC and the Bears might have the best one.

Comparatively speaking, no. They are not in the same league.

Absolutely.

Ryan is still an unknown commodity, and he has arguably the best WR corps in the NFL, top to bottom. They got guys on their bench who are studs.

So yeah, I think Cutler is the best on that list.

Most of the great QBs are in the AFC

Manning
Brady
Rothlisberger
Rivers

In the NFC, Cutler might be the best

Warner - He might be the best right now but he's old and has a lot of talent around him

McNabb - Getting up in age. Cutler might be better

Romo - He might be tied with Cutler.

Eli Manning - I'd take Cutler over him.

Matt Ryan - Cutler is better right now.

Aaron Rogers - I like him but Cutler is better.

Cutler being the best Qb in my lifetime is being the tallest midget but he definitely is.

How about where does Cutler rank in the list of Chicago athletes right now? I put him up there with the top of all the teams.

ESPN has him ranked at #11 for fantasy QB's for whatever that is worth.

Talented Mr. Roto begs to differ
The trade from Denver to Chicago knocks Jay Cutler out of the top 10 of Matthew Berry's fantasy quarterback rankings for 2009. The new list:

Drew Brees
Tom Brady
Kurt Warner
Peyton Manning
Aaron Rodgers
Tony Romo
Philip Rivers
Donovan McNabb
Matt Ryan
Matt Cassel
Jay Cutler

The guys that write pro football prospectus have him as either the fifth or seventh best QB in the league last year, depending upon how you measure it. They have a cumulative statistic (a kind of adjusted yards that takes into account situation of the game, etc.) that has him fifth, behind

Brees
Manning
Rivers
Warner

They have another statistic that values down-to-down consistency in good performance, where he ranks seventh, behind

Manning
Rivers
Brees
Ryan
Pennington
Warner

Brady is obviously absent from both lists. They had Orton at 21st and 25th on each list.

I just saw this post on the Pro Football Reference Blog and found it very interesting- so interesting I wish I had thought of it myself. The author took a number of variables (performance, draft pedigree, age) to figure out who the highest trade value QBs would be. It's not necessarily the best QB list- for example, Peyton Manning isn't first or second because he's older and only has a few years of very high production left. The methodology looks pretty solid with the exception of a few glosses that the author recognizes. Highly recommended reading.

Statistically Rogers had a better year (especially given that it was his first as a starter) in every major QB stat except total yards (in which both ranked high).

Did you omit Brees intentionally or because you are a dipshit?

I don't know to what extent this affects things but Cutler was playing with a 7th, yes 7th, string halfback by the end of the year. Denver was using a playground offense as it tried to make a playoff push.

Oh yeah. He slipped my mind. I'll put him as even with Cutler, but Cutler has more upside. Brees has peaked. Cutler is bigger, faster and has a better arm than Brees. Cutler has the best arm in the NFL.

Yeah. Besides 2007, his seasons have been slightly above average. He played bad in his first Super Bowl. He won the 2nd Super Bowl. You still have to consider him top 5 because he's a winner. For his first Super Bowl he did win 3 straight road playoff games to get there.
