First off,I'm a Cubs fan. The Yankees have a new home and they deserve it.
But some of those amazing sluggers they have had through the years have had
one thing in common: They were left-handed. Of course,Joe Dimaggio & Yogi Berra are the exceptions. They had Ruth,Gehrig,Maris,switch-hitting Mantle & Reggie Jackson to name a few. These guys were all great players,no doubt. BUT the stat's they put up have to be put in context. The old Yankee Stadium had that RF porch that a strong 13-year old could knock one out! It was a 'friggin joke. I seriously hope the Cubs play them in the WS and kick their spoiled asses. All those championships,it doesn't seem fair! I can't believe its going on 101 years.

Cubs will take it to the vines in '09! (Yes,I'm a CUBS MEATBALL FAN)

Fenway has a shorter porch in right field and they don't have a list of great left handed hitters as impressive as the Yankees. Those Yankee hitters would be great no matter where they played their home games.

No - Fenway's 'porch' is not shorter. The short porch at Yankee stadium was the upper deck that hung out over right field and was easier to reach for most lefties. It reached from the pole to the alley. Fenway is shorter at the 'pesky' pole, but goes straight out from there. Unless a guy hits a perfect hook-shot around the pole, Fenway is much harder to hit HR's to RF.

I do agree that those Yankee hitters were great, no matter the location.

This is what I love about being an ol' fart on this board......Yogi hit left handed. Elston Howard was a right handed hitter who won the MVP with all this great players! He was so good Yogi played left.

I think I got him confused with this guy:

There are many taxpayers in the state of New York that would strongly disagree with this statement.

Though they probably disagree more w/ the Mets new home. :weelchairbb:

They definitely have a problem with Citi slapping their corporate name on the Mets' new ballpark, especially with many banks getting billions in a government bailout. Chicago's own Northern Trust Bank is also under fire themselves for sponsoring a PGA Tour event earlier this year, and both employers & employees alike getting a chance to see Sheryl Crow, Chicago & Earth, Wind & Fire perform private concerts at the House of Blues in Los Angeles with our $$$$!!! :x

Took two out of three in Cincinnati.

Congrats stoneroses. Yankees always bring something special to town.

Nice to see Heisey get three home runs in one game tonight.

I have no idea how I missed this thread way back in 2009 when Jimmy Pasta temporarily went off of his anti-psychotic medication and started it. How about this gem:

When one is a loser (and I am referring to the Cubs, not Jimmy Pasta), one must be loveable to be accepted. Hence, the term "loveable loser." As a society, we can accept loveable losers. We might even feel sorry for them, and we may coddle them like a very small child or a puppy. When, however, the loser stops being loveable, he must be executed.

It was nice to see The Glorious New York Yankees in a very excellent new ballpark. I am very glad that the Reds have not gone the way of the Pirates. Both were excellent National League teams from my youth, but the Pirates will never again make the playoffs. It is pathetic and sad.

Let me tell you a little story about myself. I had to wait until I was eleven (11) years old until I was able to see The Glorious New York Yankees in the World Series. Given the Glorious history of this franchise, these eleven (11) years were very tough, almost like trying to walk through the Sahara desert with no water and having just eaten a whole bag of potato chips. So my friends and I were extremely ecstatic when Chris Chambliss won the American League pennant with a dramatic home run. Then the mighty Reds swept The Glorious New York Yankees, and I used the Lord's name a certain way, and it was taken out of context by my father. Let us just say that I never did that again!

Smiley face memories.
