It's been that type of game. Santana had 100 pitches in 5.2 innings.

Harang is going to kill me again this year in fantasy baseball. I don't know why I picked him up again after his shitty 2008. It wouldnt be so bad if the reds could score some friggin runs.

There's two pages of Nas defending Dusty Baker. That's more confounding than 4 pages on the Reds.

I think the thread will continue to grow throughout the Reds drive to win the Central this year.

I can't argue with that logic, but you have to find a way to win without him. That line of thinking reminds me of when Lee went down with the wrist injury. Dusty took the stance of "what can I do without Lee?", "how am I supposed to win without my horses?". Dusty blows...

Piss poor? That's fine. I'm sure we will have a lot to talk about this summer.

Are we talking about the same guy? 26 RBI guy? Big deal. You're tellin me that Tavaras with his 1 home run and his .251 average is what this team finds crucial to win every day? Those 68 SB and he still only scored 64 runs. Even fukudome beat that out.
If that's what could have saved the Reds then yes, sir, that is a piss poor excuse.

By the way welcome back, I missed ya man.

Most lead off hitters aren't big RBI guys. Are you telling me it's his fault that he didn't score more runs even though he stole 68 bases in 133 games? Most reasonable people would say the people behind him didn't get the job done. Your lead off hitter getting on base and creating havoc usually results in runs scored. Would you rather have a guy that stole 68 bases in 133 games in your lineup or not? That's almost gets him in the top 100 all time for a season even though he only played 133 games. That's Rickey Henderson numbers in this era.

No and that actually was kind of what I am getting to. This guy being missing wasn't a good excuse at all, partially for that very reason. Who give a shit if he steals 68 bases if no one can get him in?
Again, SB's are his only stat that isn't shitty. And they're mitigated by a lousy team around him. His 24 RBI is not exactly awe-inspiring. Again, lousy excuse.

There's also a lot in the thread about NSFake trying to prove how real he is since he says he moved to Ohio or whatever so he wants to act as though he is all things Reds now.

We'll see about that.
All I'm saying is that saying this guy not being in the lineup handicapps the Reds is a bullshit excuse. A very Dusty excuse. And I missed that kind of clueless hopelessness. I'm glad it's still alive and well in Cincinnati.

I'll make sure I remember this. Not having your lead off hitter (that stole 68 bases in 133 games) in the lineup can't be an excuse why you lost a 2-1 game. There is no way that guy may have had an impact on the game. I guess not having your stud pitcher or hitter can't be an excuse either. Darkside you hate Dusty and no matter what he does you will find something to bitch about. You probably even have pictures of him on your wall and a voodoo doll. It's going to be a long summer for you.

I don't hate Dusty.
I am glad he's managing a division rival actually. Quite glad. I think he is a terrible manager.
But do I hate him? No. If I ever saw him I'd love to shake his hand and say hi.
That's not gonna change how bad he is at his job.

And it's just too damn funny to hear you using Dusty's excuses... that's priceless, I hope I hear more of that all summer.

Willy Taveras is out of the Reds' starting lineup again on Wednesday.

No official word on the reason for his absence, but odds are that Taveras is still being slowed by the flu. Jerry Hairston is starting in center field and leading off against the Mets.

MLB should step in and postpone the game. It's asking entirely too much of a major league baseball team to field a competitive team without the great Wily Taveras at their disposal.

Huge day today for the world's finest leadoff hitter.
What they really needed in that 10-2 loss was a SB.
