I was trying to figure out what was really missing (IMO) from the current show, now that Mac has been replaced by Carmen. I think it's spontaneity. Mac has the ability to think/react to things and make jokes/comments off the cuff. Carmen is okay when it comes to guiding the show and reporting, but when something comes up that he is not expecting, he doesn't have that ability to come up with things ad lib. Harry and Jurko are actually much better at that....although some of Harry's material has been recycled so many times, that the comments don't seem spontaneous at all, but just material pulled out from storage once again.

You have to remember also that Mac has built a huge following over his 20 years in the sports radio world and he related very well with his callers, emailers, faxers and had a great followings at their remotes and had that 30 and 40 years old demo in his hip pocket. He related very well with his AC/DC music, drinking and stories with his buds from the weekend.

Carm seems a bit stiff and sticks too much to the script and I agree with Steve that he can't shift on the fly with the ease Mac did and with Harry trying to become the second fiddle it drags the show down. I Just wonder how Justin Craig can sit in his office and put that crap on and say to himself "I did the right thing by letting Mac go "... :(

It seems the public opinion is the show is dying a slow death as many I have talked to have tuned it out and by the many posts from the board here people have given their ear to B&B and their threads here can easily prove that theory correct here. When MJH was on, the B&B thread would be lucky to get a sniff but now it seems to be as popular as MJH was.

Mac was more dominant in the MJH Show - and with Carm it's more of an equal partnership. So maybe you don't really have as many issues with Carm as you do the more participative approach of Jurko and Harry.

Furthermore, I wouldn't expect Carmen to react the same as Mac when the show takes an odd turn - as Mac has been in radio for 23+ years.

This show is no longer 'The Afternoon Saloon'. I think Jim Pastor and Justin Craig put Carm behind the 8-ball thinking they could just change 'Mac to Carm' and things would just hum along. Then again, this is the same backpack totin' New Englander that feels we're afraid of change.

He'll see change alright.... starting next Fall when Mac is elsewhere - and things settle into a rhythm for ESPN1000 and WGN. Oops... did I just slip? ;)

This is the three longest consecutive posts I have ever seen on this board that didn't involve politics, race, religion, or anything else Nas baits us with.

I can only listen to this show right no between about 240 and 3 and after 6 most days. I find myself listening to the FM side most days. The show is boring and Harry is too involved.

Not for long. I don't know how long his contract has remaining, but I'd be amazed if he doesn't take a severe pay cut.

Just to give this section a post after the big Bears story, I think one diffrence is that Mac was the host of the show and knew he was in charge, and while Carmen is the host, he let's Harry and Jurko get away with anything, and it could be that Carmen feels it is not his show, but Jurko and Harry's, so he doesn't want to get in the way.

With what Mac is reporting that Jurko's contract is up in August, I see Jurko leaving, I think you will get some version of Silvy and Waddle in the afternoon, I would think as a radio station, you want your shows setup for the football season.

So, you're saying that it's not his show, but he's on that show ?

The difference between Mac and Carmen is about 50 pounds.

Agreed 100%. Carmen doesn't have the radio "chops" Mac has and is clearly not the driving force Mac was. There's no one to keep Tiny and Jurk "in check".

The show is honestly unlistenable, which is sad, because they had a pretty good thing and now it's garbage...

I no longer can stomach this show. I am usually listening to Mad Dog or NFL on Sirius.

We need Mac Back!

Hey fellas,

This is my first post. After hearing the Afternoon Saloon for the past few weeks I have become so frustrated that I searched online and found this forum where I can vent a little.

I am glad too see that I am not the only one who feels this way - although I found McNeil and Jurko being a bit excessive in riding Harry all the time; they had great chemistry and WMVP management should have recognized that and found a way to make it work. I can't remember when I had such a good time listening to sports talk prior to MJH. MJH was something I would listen to after a hard days work and helped me unwind. When I heard that Mac won't be back on the show I almost fell off my chair - why would your ruin such a good thing?

Btw, this is coming from a fan of Harry not Mac. I also don't want you think I am anti-Carmen. Carmen is great at "real sports talk" and he needs to do a solo show or rejoin silvy (with waddle).

Poor management brought down WMVP last time in the 90s and they'll do it again if they don't bring Mac back.

Welcome aboard.
Did you hear about the last ratings book? MVP seemed to have done well for itself. The demo is still listening.

McNeil has been around here forever and always has his finger on the pulse.
He also has varied interests....Further, he has THE EDGE...needed to fire off on the SAPPY ASSED element of the Hooterville fan base.....HARRY COMES TO MIND.
Carmen is a well versed talented kid.....My only complaint with him is that he acts like all of this nonsense is 'FOR REAL'........Right now he is the kid in the candy store.

Without Mac, this radio offering now would fit nicely as WGN Radio happy talk.
The chemistry that was there has evaporated.
It is a "let's all smile and get thru the day" program now.

Jurko and Harry can mail it in...they are never challenged.

I admit I was never going to embrace the Show after McNeil was whacked, but these guys don't mesh.

The Bad Cop..Danny....Good Cop...Harry... and jovial referee, Jurko, was always a pleasure to tune in after a day at work.

The biggest difference between Mac and Carmen is that Carmen has a job.
