So when does it get old that everyone is after the White Sox? Now that the Royals are intentionally throwing at "Q" are the Royals now public enemy #7 (2 behind me?)

I know someone will find the list we had created of the White Sox enemies.

In case Hawk is not aware. Q hangs over the plate, it is why he got hit a lot last year and he is going to hit this year, probably even more.

It doesn't bug me if they are brushing him back, just as long as they don't squawk when they get hit and the umpires don't eject for in kind responses. A hit for a hit and then everything returns to normal, unless there is head hunting involved.

he wasn't being brushed back, he was being hit intentionally. greinke missed him the first AB, nailed him the second. it was kind of a weird thing to do. hillman was trying to get his team fired up or something.

Getting his square in the back has nothing to do with standing close to the plate. If it was the arm or leg maybe, but with the way Greinke was throwing yesterday, he knew exactly what he was doing.

Stay out of White Sox business.

HBPs were a part of CQ's rap even before he came to the Sox. I remember hearing about this from a D'Backs fan a few years back. Check it out.

http://umpbump.com/press/2008/04/30/car ... p-records/

Quote:
In 2004, Quentin set the all-time minor league record for getting hit by the pitch by getting plunked 43 times across 2 levels, and in 2005, he set the all-time Pacific Coast League record for HBP by getting hit 29 times.

And Quentin’s propensity for getting hit by the pitch didn’t just start in the pros either. When I was at Stanford, he set the NCAA Division I record by getting hit by 5 pitches in a single game against Florida State. 5 plate appearances, 5 HBP! That was insane.

The thing about it is that he's changed his stance in the box ever since coming to the Sox. He used to have a relatively straight-up, standing stance rather than the crouch he goes into now. I imagine it has less to do with his hanging over the plate (or, really, being any marginally "close" distance to it, we're not talking about Jason Kendall here) and more to do with the fact that great hitters of his size tend to get "locked in" and have a hard time breaking their stance - the crouch makes it even more difficult. Like any other stat, I think that if you look up HBP's through the years you're going to find a few anomalies (again, Kendall) and more than a few great hitters who both require brushing back and also can't readily break out of their batting stance, because that's simply not what you're supposed to do.

This all could have been prevented if the sox would have canceled last night's game due to coldness.

Buehrle hit 2 of their guys the day before, so this was a message back to the sox.
Yes I know that Buhrl's didn't have his command, and that he doesn't throw as hard as Greinke, but as far as I could tell this was just Greinke protecting his teammates - that's why he threw 2 inside with the second connecting.

What was totally bush league, is that he went to close to CQ's head on both throws. They were too high and not far enough inside. If he got him square in the number, than CQ would have no issues, but he got him barely above the right shoulder blade.

I'm predicting that Dotel gets someone (Gordon???) tonight.
He's the only one with stones to do it, and control good enough not to turn it into a run.

I know there was bad blood between the White Sox & Royals, especially in Kansas City last summer where there was a bench-clearing brawl. I did see Carlos Quentin stare down Zach Greinke after he was hit, and former Sox catcher Miguel Olivo appeared to immediately restrain him. Pitchers are either afraid to throw inside, or run the risk of being immediately ejected by the home plate umpire if a guy intends to throw chin music...It doesn't seem right, but there are so many guys, including Quentin, that are moving targets to get hit because of their batting stances leaning over the plate.

It was odd to see that in only the second game of the season.

If you look up his profile, the avatar is still up there. I stole it.

But then I felt like creating my own gay avatar, so voila.
