Not too long. He looks totally lost at the plate, had a nice juicy oh-ffer today, the first of many to come.
He'll be a regular bench warmer soon. Mid May at worst.
I wager he struggles to hit .210 this year.

I say a month, then it will be a platoon for a month.

In a perfect world Bradley plays center and Hoff-Power plays right. Too bad the world is not perfect. Lou wishes he did not have to deal with Fukie.
I give it a month.

Isn't he already in a platoon? When there are lefties going, Reed will be in center.

lou will continue the platoon until fukudome is outright costing the cubs games. if they get off to a good start, and are winning, he will be patient. if not, he wont waste a whole lot of time watching 0-3 and 0-4 every day.

i was mildly surprised to see fuk batting 2nd last night. i would have expected 8th for him for sure, and have theriot up in the 2nd spot.

If the team is playing well and winning, id give him about 6 weeks. If he can't get it going, a trip to the minors wouldnt be a bad idea.

I think Fukodome will get about a month to prove himself, getting the majority of at bats against righthanders.

If after a month Fukodome is still struggling then start playing Johnson more.

we will get to see reed johnson tonight against the lefty. and dont forget joey gathwright. i know he doesnt hit like johnson, but he can play a little, and he runs like crazy. plus, if he encounters a car on the way to first base, we all know he can jump over it and still beat out an infield hit.

A month may be a stretch, if he keeps taking the collar. He will sit against Wandy tonight and if Reed does a great job and has 2-3 hits, it will just put that much more pressure on Fukadome. As much as I love Micah Hoffpauir's hitting, I do not like his abilities in the outfield. He does not judge fly balls well and does not have much speed. Reed Johnson and Joey Gathwright are legit Cf 's . They will be the ones competing for that position if Fukadome fails. They kept enough outfielders to be able to deal with such a scenario. I don't think that was an accident. If I were Jim Hendry, I would discuss a buyout with Fukadome's agent. If they could pay him 15-20 million to go away, it might be best for all. He could go back to Japan, where he did very well. But it's so early-maybe he gets it together and everyone winds up glad he signed here....but right now, I doubt it.

3-4 weeks. I like the idea of Fukudome hitting second in theory, but I need to see signs of improvement first. Lou would be better off hitting Fukudome 6th, 7th, or 8th.

Who are we kidding? What this guy needs is a season in AAA learning how to hit AAA and MLB pitchers. Even that might not work.
He has no IDEA what he's doing out there.

The Cubs should make a bold move and cut Fukudome,IF he does not improve.
I give him about 40 games, though. I think the Felix Pie trade is going to come
back and hurt the Cubs. We will see, though. LOOONNGG SEASON.

Lou will give him a couple weeks if not all of april...if he's not out of it by then...he becomes a very expensive late inning defensive replacement.

They should have moved him to right at the end of the game against the Astros when Gathright came in. Bradley almost cost them the game right there. If you are going to have Fukudome on the roster you might as well play to his stregnth which is defense.

A strength, mind you, which is being mitigated by the fact he's playing center now. He is NOT a good CF, if his spring games are any indicator. Adequate perhaps, not GOOD.

Hey I am not a huge fan of the guy. He is proving that he can't hit but lets be realistic he is on the roster for the start of this year and the Cubs have to try to get some use out of him and if that is playing him in right late in games so I don't have to watch Bradley stumble around and injure himself out there than thats fine with me.

With Bradley managing to trip over first base in the first game of the season, I'm afraid Fuku will be playing more than I'd like.

You Fuku haters better understand that if the Cubs are winning, Fuku isnt going anywhere, and with a decent opening schedule in the Cubs favor, dont expect Fuku sitting any time soon.

Cup- Leave it alone man, hes japanese.

Obviously when you invest a lot of money into an unknown talent, you want to make sure you are making the best choice possible.

When it comes to Japanese players, the problem is that most of our scouting reports come in the form of a manga or anime. When looking at Kosuke, we picked up on the fact that he had saved Neo Tokyo from--and belted five home runs off of--Mikomi, the Ten-Tentacled Penis Monster of Nayoga, who happened to have a 600 mile per hour fast ball. That impressive execution caught our eye. We had to find out more about him, but the only way to inquire more about it is to learn the secret art of seibu-karate, and defeat ten black belt masters, including the Bamboo Shogun of Kyoto--Kaguya.

So, paying that large amount of money is only a part of the sacrifice we made as an organization and obviously we don't make any excuses. We can only hope Kosuke can turn it around, like he did in Japan, or like last spring.

And Fukudome had 5 hits including a homerun today.

There is a good thing about his struggles. That worthless POS who made those tshirts lost money last year.

Fukudome looked like he had a clue against some bad pitcing by the Astros. I wonder how long he will need to keep this up for to turn some of his biggest detractors on the board around.

Man, I really, really hope I'm wrong about him. I just don't think he's a Major League hitter right now. But, I hope I'm wrong. I really do.
