I do admit I check every couple of weeks to comcast to get a chuckle in the morning but never more than a couple of minutes before I'm out the door. I like to say its because I want to see if its still on the air.

I just gotta know who is tuning in at home on their computer or at work to this webio shit. I cant at work but I wouldnt anyway. And at home I've got dozens of channels on Sirius plus DVR TV, Porn, yardwork, porn, housework and porn.

I seriously cant see where there's an audience. Am I wrong? Do the geniuses that started this brilliant idea actually think that everyone will rush to a computer to sit at a desk and listen to sports talk with these clowns? Spada acts like he's some big time radio guy. I bet he gets ten to twenty listeners a day. It cant be much more than that. So how does this other nonsense EVER make a profit. If they dont then why do it?

Hello.

My name is Dr. Kenneth Noisewater and it has been 30 minutes since my last Chicago Sports Webio.

Based on what I've seen on the board, spmack and I are about the only ones here listening. It was a bit of a perfect storm for me this week to sample. I just got a phone app that allows me to stream the shows, Stern is on vacation and playing crappy Stern replays, and my firewall is restricting ESPN and Score webstreams. So, I even listened to North driving in to work this morning. Here is my review of the programming -

Monsters - Outside of this morning, I really haven't heard much of the show. I've got 5 minutes here and there on TV. The show is obviously designed for TV as I'm sure 98% of the people tuning in are watching it. So, I'm not sure how fair it is to review just the audio version that I heard this morning. But, I don't think fairness has ever stopped anyone else.

It boils down to this - if you like Pappy, you probably like the show; if you don't like Pappy, you post here. In any case, what I heard this morning was pretty much a mess of people talking all over each other, looking at some pictures that they didn't really explain for about 20 minutes (I think baby pictures) all the while, Jiggs is trying to get them to talk about the Cubs. There were mentions of Joey Heatherton, Angie Dickinson, and Bob Hope. 3 people all talking at the same time doesn't sound great on the radio.

Webby & Freddy - Probably the most polished of the shows on this station. You can tell they have both been on the radio and aren't trying too hard. I wish these guys were on from 3-6pm so I could listen more. It's too bad the best show is only on for 2 hours. They spray to all fields. Pretty good show.

Mini-Monsters - I like Hood and he's about like he's always been. I think Doyle has potential but tends to put his foot in his mouth from time to time. Overall it's a decent show with the potential to be a pretty good show. Doyle candor is refreshing although at times his stories do not reflect well on himself. For the meatballs, Doyle's NY accent comes through at times and we don't like that here. Youse guys know who youse are.

Chet & the Champ - Pretty much a trainwreck. I caught a little more last night. North was on. He's on all these shows a lot. Mancini said regarding athletes and steroids "Serena Williams' crap got muscles in it". Mancini doesn't interview well and I noticed that Chet asks pretty much all the questions but one. Mancini shouts too much as though he feels he needs to yell to get his points in. I used to run an audio board for a TV station and that must be a nightmare for someone to indiscriminately just yell, for no reason. I guess it shows he's got the fire and the passion but it was distorting the audio quality he was yelling so much. Mancini is great when he talking about boxing, discussing Hatton/Pacquiao, but then they cut him off to discuss something else. I'm sure Mancini is a great guy but this doesn't work and it's not going to work. Change it.

Chet is Chet. I love Chet but this isn't working.

If there is no $ to make personnel changes, give Chet 9-11am by himself to be guest intensive like the old days and give Webby and Freddy 3-6pm. Boom Boom can come on Chet's show for a segment each day to discuss boxing or movies or Mickey Rourke or whatever. In a small dose, Boom Boom might be quite entertaining.

Let's see, I'm up to -

1. I admitted I was powerless over CS Webio—my webstream has become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that Mike North is greater than myself and could restore me to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Boom Boom Mancini if I can understand him.

Time to take a moral inventory of Mike North. Step 4.

Oh gee, this is a great surprise. Of course North is on all the shows a lot....he is "the man". A legend in his own mind....and he thinks if he is on these shows a lot...they will be successful because of him. I have watched about 5 minutes total on MITM...and listened to zero webio.

North Sucks!

Doc, you're a peach.

I, too, am a Webby and Freddie listener and it has been about 24 hours since my last sampling.

I listened to Hood the first day out of curiosity and North being on and the whole time being a Hood to North slurpfest turned me off. Is it still like that or do they actually talk sports now?

Spent that afternoon listening to Chet and the Chump and still can't believe how bad it was. Complete trainwreck and haven't had the nerve to even try to listen since.

So my rundown is...Day 1 spent a few hours trying it out. Since, I haven't even browsed the site, let alone streamed it. I'll stick to real sports radio instead of constant North slurpage all day.

I was watching MITM quite a bit when it first came on,hardly at all now.
I would say I catch about 90 minutes a week(which is probably more then most people). I tuned in the Webio one time for about 2 minutes, that was it.

Not listening right now. But I'll listen to streaming Score or streaming ESPN, so what's the flaming difference?

Anyway, I like Webby/Fred's show is the best of the bunch. Chet & Boom Boom are a casualty waiting to happen. And there's no way I'm listening to Monsters, especially with Mully Hanley out there.

I wake up about 8 am or so, and catch the last hour of the MITM....I have it on my DVR list so I don't pay too much attention to it, knowing I can catch it all when I get home.

So far, its just "ok" with a lot a flaws. Too much of Jen feeling a need to be a part of the show. Too much Jen laughing off screen. Too much of Mike not knowing what he is talking about and no one to call him out. Jiggs is ok but sometimes I feel like he doesn't care what direction the show goes in, just as long as he keeps getting those checks. Who told Mike that it is cool to be on your cell phone while doing a show? You would think someone would tell him to quit some of those silly antics but I'm sure these are people that are so happy to have a job that they are scared to say anything for fear of losing it.

Honestly, a lot of days I just wait until the ladies of the morning come on so I can see what CyCy is wearing for the day, and once their 45 seconds of air time is done, I delete it from the bank. 3 hours is like 3% of the DVR's memory so if you don't delete it, it can add up real quickly.

Have not listened to Webby and Fred yet because I'm a card carrying member of the Silvy ALS...

I listen to Hood and Doyle every day from at 1-2, and lately until 3 because of Sox day games. I've always been a Hood fan. Doyle is ok, but his New York attitude wears thin on me. And I don't like the fact that Doyle has to tell us about how great he is at picking up chicks, he reminds me of Salisbury in that regard.

I WILL NOT give Chet and the Champ a listen at all.....

Hey Dr. Ken -

Have you tried using moodio to stream espn and the score to de fone?

It's simple and works relatively well.

Thanks. Does it work on an iPhone? My problem now is that both stations need a flash player and, from what I've read, iPhone doesn't support flash yet.

Flash is still not available. That is a big problem which I hope Apple will soon address. There are rumors, but nothing concrete yet.

I see. Unfortunately I am not knowing. I concur that the iphone has no flash love which makes zero flippin sense! But it works on the world's crappiest smart phone (BB pearl) so there has to at least be an iphone crack for it.

Webby and Fred were decent. I will probably check them out from time to time. I still like Waddle and Silvy better during that time. But Webby and Fred are already wayyyyy better than Lo-ho and 99.

In all fairness, I listen to sportsradio less and less thanks to the ever more tiring formula, the meatheads, and better programming elsewhere. If I want to hear about the great Micah or Cutler as saviour-debate for a week I'll come here to at least laugh.

I really don't get the allure of the webio concept. More meatheads, more screaming, more dead air, no thanks.

But will this ever be profitable?

Can it be?

If not....why do it? Bad time to experiment.

I just dont see how they will reach enough people to get the ad revenue that radio does.
