Nick Swisher so far this year:

.474 BA 3 HR 10 RBIs

Where was this at last year?

On April 14th last year, he was hitting .289 , .460 OB%, 2 HRs and 10 runs scored.

At the end of the month, he was hitting .211, .368 OB%, 3 HRs and 17 Runs scored. He then hit .176 in May.

Give him 2 weeks, he'll come crashing back to earth.

It's also in limited time (repeat after me: small sample size) and a few of those XBH have been bizarre - I saw him hit a "triple" off of Gil Meche that was a misplayed flare down the right field line, between the 1B and RF. There were two runners on and the throw from 1B in to the infield was delayed and went to the cut-off man - Swisher gets a huge tic on the OPS (especially given that he only had 10 PA up to that point) and drives in two runs.

Not saying stuff like that isn't legitimate, or that I don't wish the Sox had held on to him in hopes that his value does rise (he's entering his "prime" on that contract, and cheap, too) but it's not like he's flipped the switch and started raking. Give it time (depending on how much he plays) and you'll see an unremarkable .250 hitter with an OBP-infused ~.800 OPS who also happens to be a defensive liability. Good, but not great.

+1 to 'Ztansa for having statistics at the ready.

Did he follow it up with The Worm? I can't stand it.

Saw this on SportsCenter this morning. He was the best pitcher
they had going last night. Walked off the mound with a huge
grin and big old chaw in his lip. I love to see the Yankees
struggle. :P

Whenever you see a position player on the mound, you know it's not your team's night!

Hasen't Aaron Miles pitched a couple times?

Darkside, he might have, but position players who pitch usually come in a blowout game... The Yankees got their clocks clean at Tropicana Field to a point where Joe Girardi put Swisher on the mound. I bet the high-priced Yanks got a cheap laugh out of seeing Nick on the mound, but there's nothing funny when their regular pitchers couldn't get the Rays out last night.

If he hasn't, he will

This (http://www.drivelinemechanics.com/2008/ ... etancourt/) is the closest I could find to coverage of Tony Pena, Jr. of the Royals coming in to pitch late in a game last season. The video's been taken down from Youtube by MLB, which is unfortunate, but the graph should give you a pretty good idea of how awesome TPJ was in his appearance.
