Len and Bob have said 2 times now that the series begins tomorrow. But the schedule I have looked at shows the Rockies here again tomorrow and the Cards series beginning on Friday.

Chicago Tribune sports section also had it wrong today in the online version.

It was the Trib site I was looking at.

The good news is Lou knows how terrible Vizcaino is. The bad news is Hendry won't release him.

I seem to remember Marquis getting his giddy up for playing the Cardinals when he played with the Cub. Must get it going for his old teams. That being said I do remember him getting batted around by Atlanta. You cant win them all. Time to get ready for the Cardinals....

Guys, you can all laugh at me when the Cubs win this division by 10 + games most likely, but something just feels wrong here. I can't quite place my finger on it and maybe it's nothing - but I'm wondering if the Cubs aren't just a little too comfortable with all their pre-season accolades.

The Cards are winning again today and yes I realize that they have what everyone perceives as no pitching - but damnit if they don't scare me. Larussa, even given the fact that he is a giant DB can get the most out of starters and that seems to be the case again early.

So yeah I guess it's official as of 4:22 PM on 4/15/2009 - I'm sounding the panic alarm! :)

Is it just me or does something feel wrong about this team?

Carpenenter just went on the 15 day DL. While I recognize that the Cardinals are probably the best team in this division that isn't the Cubs I am not ready to hit the panic button quite yet. Playing them the next 4 days should give us a better idea if the Cards are legit or not.

Way to early to hit the panic button.

I know it's early and I am pretty sure I am wrong - maybe it was the fact that Marquis drove in more runs than he even gave up - but I have felt this way since spring training broke. I don't think Gregg is the answer and keeping Guzman and Patton worries me. I think letting Gaudin go was a mistake and I think Samardzija should be up. Bradley is an injury a week guy and D. Lee is a shell of his former self.

I'm sure it's just gas - ha ha

I agree letting Gaudin go is gonna come back and bite the Cubs in the ass

I should be used to being nervous about the Cubs closer. Can't remember the last time I had complete faith in any Cubs closer.

Harden is a pussy. Throw strikes. Nothing worse than a cowardly pitcher.

If this team is worried about losing Gaudin, then we are in deep crap.

He went on a ball that didn't get far enough away from the catcher and made the first out at third base in a 5-2 game. That was incredibly baseball stupid

It was just "one of those games". They really didn't seem very fired up after the 1st inning. When they had 2 runners on and Lee up with a full count, the runners were off, Lee strikes out on a fastball right over the heart of the plate, with the bat on his shoulder. The runner gets thrown out, to complete the double play. Officially, Lee will not get credit for the double play, as he did not hit into it. You have to take the bat off your shoulder, to hit into a double play. Lee did hit a sharp grounder that the SS (Tulo) couldn't handle and a HR when nobody was on and the game looked to be over, with the Rockies ahead by 4 and their closer in. Hoffpauir had a ringing double in his only chance, to bring in the only run Marquis gave up. Amazing that he can still hit sharply after not getting a single start yet. This after leading the majors in the spring with 26 RBI. Gotta credit Marquis, for a well pitched game. He was sharp and located well. Harden looked great in the 1st inning, then fell apart. The umpire was not calling some pitches over the outside corner, but he didn't give them to Marquis either. Harden didn't adjust and walked too many guys and got behind in the count consistently. Just a bad game. The Cardinals series (4 games) should give the Cubs a nice chance to jump ahead of the redbirds and deflate them a bit. Of course, carpenters latest trip to the DL might have already done that to some degree.

I don't know how you couldn't be worried about the Cards. They have been pretty damn impressive early on. They are scoring a shit-ton of runs, playing good defense and getting good starting pitching. The Carpenter injury will hurt but it wasn't unexpected. I think the Cards will be there all season long. This will be a fun weekend of baseball.

It should be a great weekend. The weather Tomorrow-Saturday is supposed to be warmer and very nice and this should be a great series. Make no mistake though, Carpenter is a big loss for them.

I thought I heard Carpenter is out at least 4-6 weeks. I believe they are bringing up a kid
from the minors to pitch in the series. Should be a good series and if the Cubs can somehow
win 3 of 4 that would be great. Gonna have to play better than yesterday though. I didn't
see the first part of the game but how does Harden pitch 3 innings, strike out 8 but give up
4 runs? Crazy.

I am not yet worried about the Cubs, they are 5-3 and thats with having their starting catcher miss 5 games, starting 3rd baseman miss two games and starting RF miss two games.

That being said I don't think October baseball is a slam dunk for the Cubs, I cringe when people seem to say as a matter of fact that the Cubs will make the playoffs. The Cubs have the most talent in the division but all it takes is a few key injuries and a few bullpen implosions <cough> Gregg <cough> and this team could hit the skids (of course this could be said for almost every team).

But it is still way to early, lets see after a few more weeks and we will have a better idea of what this Cub team is or is not.

Agreed, we won't know what we really have here until mid-May. By that time we will
either feel good or be reaching for the panic button before June like we have for years.
