Thinking, or reading, Silvy?

Know who Ben Gordon is? Alfonso Soriano. He is to the Bulls exactly what Soriano is to the Cubs.

Not smart enough to do a search...promise!
Good stuff though.
Soriano is a "better player" but I thought it was a good comparsion. Though I guess hardly original ;)

Haha. I was thinking about it again today, and I really think the analogy is apt.

1. neither guy has a position (Soriano plays out of position on defense, and in the lineup!)

2. both are defensive liabilities

3. both are their teams greatest scoring threat

4. both are prone to making boneheaded plays

Really, I think Soriano is the better player almost solely on the basis of defense being much more important in basketball. Opposing players can't take advantage of Soriano the way they can Gordon.

Both players are prone to hot (some very) and cold streaks.

Tomorrow on a very special Silvy and Waddle, Silvy leads a long discussion on "land rents" and why it is the optimal tax structure.

I don't put much stock into "winning games at the end." The points count whenever they're scored, and I'd argue the Cubs could better afford to do without Soriano in the lineup than the Bulls could Gordon; though, thinking it over, it's damn close. Suffice it to say, the Bulls don't come anywhere near 41 wins without Gordon.
