Cubs designated RHP Luis Vizcaino for assignment.

He is the third (3) pitcher Hendry is paying to pitch for another team THIS YEAR. Marquis ($1 mil), Gaudin ($2 mil) and Vizcaino ($4 mil). It's a good thing cubs ownership (whoever that is) is willing to bailout all these mistakes.

What a great GM!

He pays all these guys to play elsewhere, meanwhile his own middle relief is terrible.

id rather see them go then hang on to them and watch them suck all year. frankly, i was sorry to see wuertz go, he was under-appreciated. im glad to see them abandon the samardzija-as-a-starter idea, even though he got hit around today.

Chad Gaudin struck out seven in five scoreless innings for Triple-A Portland on Thursday.

He allowed just two hits and walked none. Gaudin, who was released by the Cubs at the end of the spring, opted to sign with the Padres because he'd have a chance to start, and it looks like he may be in the team's rotation before long with the way he's progressing. He hasn't given up a run in two starts for Portland.

and the cubs released this guy because they wanted to keep Vizcaino for 2 weeks??
