He never stays anywhere for long because he burns out, but Collins would have been a better coach than Del Negro. Saying that, as popular as it is to bash Del Negro (and there are lots of good reasons), a Collins coached team would have been going home in Round 1 as well.

I think the first move to be made concerns the future of General Manager John Paxson himself. Although Peter Vecsey may have struck out concerning his story about Pax's future with the team at the start of NBA All-Star Weekend in Phoenix last February, this story rears its head again come this summer, as Gar Forman officially takes over for Paxson as V.P. of Basketball Operations with Paxson himself taking over a less-demanding role a little further up the Bulls' front office. As far as the team goes, I think they'll make every effort to try & acquire Chris Bosh from Toronto, but even if Ben Gordon gets too much $$$$ elsewhere to stay here, guys like Tyrus Thomas & Kirk Hinrich will be in demand this offseason. I wouldn't be shocked if Tyrus & Kirk are sent packing...

Gone:
Ben Gordon: If the Bulls want to make a splash in 2010, they cannot sign Gordon. I hope they don't try either. You can find another Dell Curry somewhere else.

Aaron Gray: His role has been cheerleader since the Miller/Salmons trade, he gone. I will miss the White Panther

Lindsey Hunter:Bye Grandpa

Staying:
Luol Deng: As much as I don't like it, there is nobody out there that is going to take on his contract this off-season before the 2010 frenzy. Hopefully Deng will have a solid/healthy year next season and we can move him to a team that strikes out in the 2010 free agent market next summer and then resign Salmons.

Kirk Hinrich: If Gordon leaves, then I think you have to keep Kirk around. His contract is better over time since it was front-loaded.

Tim Thomas and Brad Miller are going nowhere. Their contracts come off the books next summer.

I wouldn't mind seeing Linton Johnson back next year. He looked okay in limited action, and I would like to see him get a chance for a bigger role in training camp. You are not going to get far in this league with a 7 man rotation.

There really won't be any big moves being made this summer for the Bulls. I expect them to sign a 6th man that can knock down the three and sign a stiff to replace Aaron Gray, that's really about all I see them doing. They will probably fill out the rest of the roster with one-year deals with no-risk players and hope for the big signing in 2010.

I still think Toronto will come to the conclusion that they can't re-sign Bosh...thus he & his $14M salary will be out there. Hinrich or Deng & TT along with this year's first rd picks for Bosh? That would give the Bulls the 2 star players supposedly needed to contend along with solid support players in Salmons, Noah, Hinrich or Deng. I'd also re-sign BG IF he'd be willing to come off the bench (IMO he'd be the best 6th man in the league and worth the cost). :drunken:

I'm undecided about Ben Gordon...Part of me wants #7 to stay because of his offensive ability and that if he leaves, that's a good 20 points per game at least that'll be missing from this team in spite of BG's lack of defense. The other part thinks the midseason acquisition of John Salmons from Sacramento makes BG more expendable, especially considering the big $$$$ Luol Deng got last summer and what Kirk Hinrich currently makes as a backup on this team. I do think despite his own maddening play at times, Tyrus Thomas is definitely one guy I'd like to see the Bulls trade, especially if Chris Bosh is available from Toronto ahead of the 2010 free agent class that I keep hearing so much about. Do I deal Thomas for Bosh straight up? Not exactly, but the Bulls still need a low post presence, as long as they don't go over the luxury tax Uncle Jerry has little interest in paying.

It's sort of twisted for someone as ignorant as IkeSouth, talking the kind of shit that he is, to have the necessary degree of self-awareness to call someone out for "sinking to his level."

The question is who will make up for the missing points that BG provides? I'm guessing Rose & Deng see the ppg grow dramatically if Gordon leaves.

The scoring would be replaced, but they would lose a guy who can put up a lot of points in a short period of time. Rose will score more next season, a healthy Deng who will be starting because we're stuck with his massive contract, will average 13-16 points, and Salmons is here for a full year.

Every move they have made of late has been to free up cap room for 2010 so it would surprise me if they signed Gordon to a big deal this off-season. At best, given the economy, maybe the Bulls get lucky, and he does a 1 year deal and tries again next off-season. I'm not holding my breath though on that happening.

I tend to agree with your analysis - sort of sitting back, waiting for the 2010 off-season, and taking a crack at what's available then. Of course, that could change if Toronto/Phoenix decide to make a pre-emptive move this off-season, the Bulls will be in the mix for either of one of these guys given the cap space (expiring deals) they can offer.

I would not allow Gordon to walk for nothing but I wouldn't want him back unless he was willing to take about $6M a year. Gordon isn't a starting player. He is a guy that should come off the bench and provide instant offense. Gordon isn't worth $10M+ a year and he also isn't worth missing out on a stud in 2010. I really believe Rose will become a better player without Gordon here. Rose seems to defer to Gordon late in the 4th quarter and I believe that is hurting his development.

I also would do nearly everything in my power to bring in Bosh or Amare. Boozer isn't likely to opt out and he isn't worth the money he is looking for. My preference would be Bosh because of his age.

I would not try to trade Luol Deng even if someone was willing to give me an expiring contract. Many of you guys act as if Luol is a bad basketball player because you saw Salmons score points like Ben Gordon. That's what Salmons pretty much is. Salmons is a guy that can fill it up when he gets hot but will also make you bang you head against the wall with his shot selection. Salmons doesn't like to grab rebounds or really play defense (not as bad as Gordon) Deng was starting to put it together before the injury. Having a guy that can knock down an open shot will only help Rose. Having a guy that cares about grabbing a rebound will help Noah too since Tyrus doesn't seem to care. It doesn't really matter that his contract is about $20M more than it probably should be. The Bulls are a better team with Deng and Salmons in the same lineup.

I wouldn't trade Hinrich unless he had to be included to bring in a stud player. His versatility is a huge asset and he is really the only wing guy that cares about or can play defense. He is also the type of guy that can teach and push Rose in practice.

Along with bringing in a star player I would try to find some Steve Kerr/Jud Buchler type of players. Rose may have averaged 10 assists a game if he had people that could knock down wide open shots. The Bulls really need some shooters.

I would show Vinny and his staff the door. Having a competent NBA coach can only help the development of Rose and make the Bulls a legitimate threat in the East. A high school coach isn't going to take your far in the NBA even when you have assistants like Frank Drebin and Det. Nordberg sitting next to you. I would see if Doug Collins still has some interest in coaching.

Excellent post, though I would say that Deng is pretty much untradable right now given his last 2 seasons, and next 5 years of his contract.

I read Foreskin was taking the job but all moves would have to be approved by Pax.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd rather give Pax one more year - but with a real coach.
