This should be a good series. The Cubs will throw their 2 lefties against the cards-Lilly and Marshall, in hopes of keeping some of the left handed cardinal hitters down. Puljols, they will probably continue to TRY to pitch around, whenever possible. There is great anticipation for this series, as Carpenter returns to the mound fot the Cardinals on wednesday, when he will face dempster. Lilly, faces Joel Pineiro in the opener and in the finale, Marshall will face Wainwright, who seems back on track. Marshall wants to stay in the rotation and it's his last start, prior to Zambrano's return, so a lot is on the line for him personally. It would be great to see Lilly pitch a gem in game 1 and then have Dempster win game 2 (Carpenter will be on a 75-80 pitch count) so they can have the series won, prior to game 3, as that match-up looks the toughest. After a nice homestand, then a day off, the Cubs should be well prepped for a good series in St Louis.

I would like to see the Cubs get their giddy up for playing the Cardinals and take 2 out of 3. I think they have some quality pitching going for them the one obvious thing that scares me would be getting Gregg in during a save situation to face Pujols cause that is like tying a steak around your neck and jumping into the Grizzly bear cage at the zoo. But I digress I am going on record as saying the Cubs can take 2 of 3.

Cards have been struggling and the Cubs have been playing pretty well. Cubs take 2 of 3.

Cards have been struggling, but against Milwaukee that can be understandable as they're the hottest team in baseball right now. The Cubs have been doing well of late, but against sub standard teams. Let's see what playing a quality opponent on the road does for this team.
In related news, does Wells go down when Z gets activated, or does Wells stay on as a 5th starter, Marshall get moved to the pen as the lefty, and Cotts gets his walking papers. Quite the turnstyle in the bullpen this season so far.

How can the Cubs move Wells anywhere? 16 some scoreless innings is kind of hard to argue with. So far,the Cubs Subs have helped keep them above water.
The Hoff,Scales & Wells (new rock group?) have been great.

Wells is staying up. Lou already said that. My guess is Cotts gets his walking papers. They're going to hold out as long as they can with Patton.

what about Asciano (sp?). I'm thinking if they keep Marshall in the starting rotation, then Asciano goes & Cotts stays & wells goes to the bullpen.....If they decide to keep wells in rotation, then bye bye Cotts. Lou has said he likes Marshall in the rotation so we will see.

They may have to work out a trade with Colorado. That way they can send Patton to the minors.

I hate Cotts but I like Marshall better as a starter. I would like to see them send Ascanio back down and put Wells in that long relief role in the bullpen and then have Hendry work the phones in June to try to get us a legitmate lefty arm out of the pen that can get lefties out.

I was at the last game where Ascanio had his two bipolar innings. Plunking two batters on two pitches, wild pitch all the way to the backstop and giving up two killer runs followed the next inning by striking out two of three and a weak grounder for the third out... A perfect two inning capsule of the frustration that he is. Ascanio may well be very talented, but we don't have time for him to figure out what the fuck he's doing here in the Bigs. If he has options left, he has to go down.

I cannot remember the last time I heard ANY game that featured a three pitch inning like the Cubs had in the top of the fourth. I don't catch every game. I don't scour the box scores. Still and all, that's just fucking sad. Not a good omen for the series given that Piniero sucks and Carpenter and Wainwright don't.

You guys are lucky, I can't watch or listen to the Hawk. I'm stuck with the Cub.
Where is the game at on radio?

Really, thats what happened? I kept flipping between the Sox, Hawks, and this, and thought maybe there was a rain delay or something because it was an incredibly long commercial break. I guess it wasn't, and I just missed a 1/2 inning.

Ascanio and Patton both have nice arms. Some day they may each be legitimate major league contributors. But right now, they are not ready. Having either taking up a roster spot is a mistake. Ascanio goes back to the minors on Friday, when Big Z comes off the DL. Cotts started terrible last season too. But from June on, did a good job. It may be that he needs the warmer weather to get loose. I believe that he will once again, be a contributor as the season goes on.

I'm so tired of the 'warm weather' excuse; no matter who that is: Cotts, Alexei Ramirez, ext... What happens in October when it's cold again? Do they go back into their (berrrr it's cold) shell?

I was listening to it on radio and thought I missed a half inning. Piniero sucks and the Cubs just kept hacking at the first pitch all night.

Good to know you're watching Frank. We'll redeem your soul and turn you away from the darkside yet.
