Horrible news for Cubs fans. This season gets worse every day.

The Sox aren't even giving anything up. Kevin Towers is an idiot.

The White Sox, members of the AL Central, trading for a Padre pitcher is "horrible news" for Cubs fans?
Hmmm....not exactly.

This Peavy deal is almost out of Towers' hands. It is a deal that had to be made to get Peavy off of the books in order to benefit the owner, who is going through a nasty divorce.

Let's say Peavy waives his no trade. How quickly can he be worked into the rotation?

Linebrink is on S&W right now talking about his conversation with Peavy last night. Tune in.

I think he pitched Monday. You could get him in town by Satuurday and pitch him sunday monday. Why not?
Switching leagues, and parks, don't expect the same numbers but he's still a solid pitcher. Expect decent numbers.
Kinda pissed that KW managed to pull this off and JH was too busy ordering a footlong to get 'er done over the last 3 years. Now the Sox just need to trade to Brian Roberts.

The money doesn't seem to add up, and Jake Peavy's owed a lot of money by the cash-strapped San Diego Padres. He's a really good pitcher though, and would upgrade a White Sox rotation that's been awful other Mark Buehrle this season.

Holy fucking shit I just read this. Looks like Peavy is leaning toward waiving the no-trade. If it goes through, we've got a shot to have the best rotation is baseball. I wonder, though, how much Peavy's ERA would jump pitching at the Cell vs. Petco.

It's believed if Peavy stays in San Diego, he pitches tomorrow vs. Mt. Zambrano and the Cubs, but could pitch as soon as Saturday night when the Sox host the Pirates in Interleague Play.

The money adds up fine, Shark. He's only making $8M this season and next year the sox are ridding themselves of $41.5M between Thome, Dye, Contreras and Dotel. Have I mentioned that I fucking LOVE KENNY WILLIAMS!!!!!

You could even make it more convienent for him by pitching in Monday in Anahiem so he wouldn't have to fly cross country right off the bat.

That's the only thing I could possibly figure is that the Sox do have expiring contracts that might make the deal financially feasible for the Southsiders, Keyser...The Padres are staring a luxury tax right in the face from what I've heard...

You sure it adds up fine? What about the 22 mil at the end of the deal? One of the things I have heard is he will not waive the no clause unless a team says they will take on that last year option.

If the Cubs did this, you would be the first one on here bitching about how they are taking on bad money again.

Peavy, Buerhle and if Danks/Floyd regroup (that's the shot I was referring to), how is that a ridiculous statement?

Because outside of Buerhle, that's not a group that's going to be a top producer. Sorry.

I assume it's Richard and Poreda. That is a nice haul for the Padres. With those two, I hope they are only adding in guys like Broadway and McCullogh.

Guys, Aaron Poreda & Clay Richard were the most notable names going to San Diego for Peavy, but the other 2 names weren't disclosed.

IF they get this done and can just make it to the playoffs they could be a force. This gives them two legit #1 pitchers and if you can get Danks on track he has great stuff. Look what Arizona did a few years back with Johnson and Shilling. 2 or 3 pitchers get really hot around the playoffs (and we know these 2 definitely can be great) then the Sox will be tough to beat in a playoff series. Plus the core of our bullpen is still really good so if you can get 6 or 7 good playoff innings, there's Jenks/Dotel/Thornton/Linebrink finishing the game up. The hitting will come but pitching will get us set to do some real damage.

The best starters would be 28 (Peavy) and 30 (Buerhle). I agree that over the course of a season the failings of the rotation's back end can prove lethal, but you'd be in good shape in a short series. If just get either Danks or Floyd right, you're in a very favorable position, rotation-wise, for a long time to come.

This would stick it right up Hendry's ass.

Mully was reading interleague numbers for him. They were something like 8-8 with a 3.32 ERA and a nice WHIP in 20 starts
