Carpenter is a good pitcher and a former Cy Young award winner, however I would think it's more disconcerting to get shut down (for 5 innings at least) by a guy making his first start in almost 2 months...

Wow. Just wow. To hear an All-Star 1st baseman say something like that. Maybe Urlacher's Missing whatever was right about this. No excuses? damn the sentence right before that was an excuse! A ball player needs to know that he can hit any pitcher, ANY pitcher, every time he walks into the box.

Paul Sullivan wrote:
Bradley said the loss to Carpenter was not like losing to "Joe Blow."

Again with the "we were facing a good pitcher" shit. Are we gonna get 5 hits over 18 innings once a series because we're not facing "Joe Blow?"

This is the kind of crap that happened during the Dusty regime that pissed me off. Lou need to nip this shit right in the bud. If he's not doing that, he's not managing well.

Wow did either of these pud's happen to notice that Carpenter only pitched 5 inninigs last night. Was Kyle Mclellan throwing some of the nastiest stuff you have seen all year? How about that loser who threw nothing but fastballs bust still managed to strike out Soriano?

Well, he really hit the shit outta that one, didn't he?

I held it like an egg.

Yeah, and he scrambled the son of a bitch. Look at that, he hit the fucking bull! Guy gets a free steak!

In all fairness, my man Keyser is a knowledgeable baseball fan. On the other hand, Franklin is a chubby little rascal.

And another thing, if you were to combine the Cub and the Sock, they would still have a hard time scoring more than 4 runs. These guys fucking blow.
When does training camp start?

Are you watching the Illini on the Big Ten network, Reason? They're playing Ohio St. and it's a pretty good game.

Yes Keyser, I am flipping back and forth. I live just a few blocks from Illinois Field. Once you get beyond the sound of the aluminum bats, it's not a bad place to watch a game.

Back in the day, where the baseball field and softball field sits, there was a poorly maintained, free par three golf course that anyone could play. God, I'm fucking old.

I'm doing the same. That was a tough inning for the Illini but it could have been worse.

Free par 3 course? How many High Life's did you knock down there over the years??

I get the joy of watching this game on the Cardinals network, and their announcer just said that Cotts was a "very reliable" reliever. I would like to know who the hell he is thinking about. Cotts blows.

Gee, you're gonna win a bunch of three game series scoring only two fucking runs.
Well, at least we can take some solace in that fact the pitching was just good enough to give up enough runs to lose.
Christ, this is gonna be a long season.

Sorry, that's my standard response to most of what Frank writes. You have to pay royalties if you want to use it.
If Reason likes what you write, you can't be all bad. Chalk my response up to being somewhat annoyed at these games.

I caught the bottom of the first inning, and that was it.

I guess kerchungathunk has never watched a Sox game in his life

They really miss Aramis Ramirez right now. Trading DeRosa, left them very vulnerable and now that vulnerability has jumped up and taken a bite out of their backside. Plus, having guys like Fontenot, Lee and Soto under-performing, doesn't help.

It's been 30 some odd years if a day. I have a picture of the event while I was sitting behind an I beam. Cherished childhood memory.
You missed a Cubs game yet there sparky?

[quote="Elmhurst Steve"]They really miss Aramis Ramirez right now. quote]

That's the key in all of this. When Soriano went down last June, they played well for the first 10 days or so. After that, they played around .500 ball until Soriano returned. The same is now happening with Ramirez out. My guess is the Cubs will be up and down over the next four weeks. Then things should be okay, as long as they can stay healthy.

The Zambrano-Peavy matchup tonight should be a good watch.

Or maybe if they fire Greg Walker their hitting will improve. Either way, isn't it time for the firing of another Sox hitting coach.
