Gawd, but the defense would be awful if this comes around. Then again, the offense needs to get all the help it can get. Could very well be a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul.

From Rotoworld

Cubs manager Lou Piniella hinted Thursday that Alfonso Soriano could begin seeing time at second base if Mike Fontenot's slump continues.
It actually makes a good amount of sense. Soriano is a former second baseman and the move, most importantly, would allow the hot-hitting Micah Hoffpauir to play left field. Fontenot is batting just .195/.292/.364 in 118 at-bats this season. "We'll explore all our other options," Piniella said. "I feel very comfortable with our outfield, but we've got to score some runs too."

So on a team that is extremely mediocre defensively, we are going to worsen two positions?

This is simply Lou nicely asking Jim Hendry to "DO SOMETHING!!"

Bad idea - this move creates the need to make two moves - that is never good.

Joe Dirt was excellent as a part time player last year but is being exposed as an everyday player this season. So now they want to expose another part time player?? Fool me once shame on you fool me twice....

...you're Jim Hendry. All the more reason he's the worst GM in Chicago. All that payroll and he's caused his manager to need to consider making a move like this.

Stupid idea. If Lou wants to get the hot hitting Hoffpauir (a miracle he hits as well as he does, given his infrequent playing time), he just needs to bench Lee. Want to give Koyie Hill a few more starts, while Soto continues to struggle? That might not be a bad idea either. Maybe Soto's shoulder is still bothering him and a bit more rest might help.
