I'm finishing up the book, going to see it over the weekend. Hope it doesn't suck.

Haven't read the books but really thought the movie sucked. It was a 1.5-2 star mindless action movie with some ridiculous story lines. The worst part about it was the whole "pointing" thing. Every clue to the next big thing in the movie had to do with Hanks seeing some statue pointing in a direction...then he goes to a map and looks for a church in that area...then another pointing statue and back to the map again. Hanks' character was bland and smug. It's like they tried to make him a smart but endearing character like Indiana Jones but they failed miserably. If you really get drunk or stoned and can completely suspend disbelief for 2.5 hours you might get some mindless entertainment out of it. Otherwise skip it and see Star Trek. I heard that was good.

i saw it online, it was ok, if you liked the first one you'll probably like this. I wouldn't pay money for it, but i was entertained for a few hours.

I found myself rather captivated and entertained by the action in both books. I haven't seen the DVC movie, although recall that, when it was just announced, I thought that Hanks is not exactly a good pick to play Langdon. For some reason I thought that Cage would look more natural in that role. I can't remember if this was before the National Treasure 1 or after.

It's funny Hawkeye mentioned Indiana Jones. A few chapters into the book I told the Mrs. that this is like the modern day Indiana Jones and that they should keep cranking out a movie after a movie and that some might actually be quite good.

The book was a page turner, but kinda ridiculous at the end (pope on fire)... like Da Vinci Code it was almost written to be adapted to the screen.

The book kept yammering on about camerlengo's ineligibility, but if I recall correctly (it's been a while) anyone, even a non-catholic, is eligible for election.

i think the perfect robert langdon would've been guy pearce. but...that's just me.

Dan Brown needs to get his catechism knowledge up to speed. So the pope made a kid via artificial insemination and the cardinals (according to Brown) say that there was no sin. What about the process of producing batter for the bun so to speak?

I saw this movie. Much better than the first. Plot holes you can drive a semi-trailer through but if you "Opie Up",you can enjoy it. At least it had action,though cartoonish at times.

i didn't bother seeing the movies after reading the books.
it's like John Grisham novels. you just can't recreate that in 2 hours and 34 minutes (or whatever). same with the first jurassic park book.

the first "Jurassic Park" book had a lot more depth than "The Da Vinci Code". The movie was as good as an adaptation you could get. JP, not so much, but still one of the most visually stunning movies ever made.

You could film a turd in Kauai and it will be visually stunning. The place is absolutely breathtaking. Took me three flights and 16 hours to get there, but, man, it was more than worth it.

Went to see it last night. I'll leave a complete review for someone like Zach who is more eloquent on cinematic matters that I can ever be. I'll offer a few random thoughts instead.

SPOILER ALERT

1. If I were in charge of casting…

Langdon - Nicholas Cage
Vetra - Uma Thurman
Olivetti - Michael Imperioli
Richter - Michael Madsen
Hit man - Vin Diesel
Camerlengo - David Morse

2. While I realize that you can't just take the book and put it on the screen, dropping the following angles made the movie much less intriguing:

Camerlengo's artificial insemination birth
Killed priest-researcher = Vetra's father,
Hitman kidnapping Vetra and an exciting fight scene at the Castle of the Angels they could have made out of this, especially with Diesel, Cage, and Thurman.
Trip to CERN on an X-33 prototype. Come on, that was the coolest part! 1 hour flight from Boston to Geneva

3. Overall, I think it sucked! Lazy effort from everyone. Not enough dramatization, not enough Rome scenery. The book, which is extremely poorly written to begin with, was way more exciting than the movie.

i'll be honest, i'm probably not going to check this out.

i like my illuminati fiction from masters like robert shea and robert anton wilson; not a hack writer like dan brown, thanks...

although i did enjoy "da vinci code"...it's what it was: a codebreaking action thriller. RIGHT, dan brown? no? yeah...see that's why i won't be reading anything else by you.

I took my mom for mother's day and dinner yesterday (she was out of town the weekend of mothers day I was tied up last weekend). She loved the book but was disappointed in the movie. I thought the movie was okay nothing to write home about. The DaVinci code was better.

Just got around to watching this...I thought it was really good...lots of twists I didn't see coming...

Anyone know if they are working on another one?

This was the first of 3 books, but the 3rd one just came out last fall. I would assume a movie will follow.
