Wow, that is pretty cool.

I am officially jealous of a Cubs fan, I think. :pale:

That is pretty cool. Just don't show up any of the Cubs hitters
in the cage.... well at least let them down easy.

Just looking to make full contact. As one of my many Vegas stops is the batting cages where you hit against a machine and Rf is the Green monster, CF is Wrigley and RF was Yankee Stadium. always took me a few pitches to get going.

Hope I get more than 3 pitches

I would be shocked if bigfan failed to hit 48mph batting practice pitches.

that is pretty cool tho.

Yeah they may be 48mph, but they aren't being thrown from 60' 6".

o.k., but that doesn't make them any less or more than 48 mph...even if they are thrown from 52'

Just for laughs you should bunt a few to show them how its done. Remember, arms extended...don't chop at the ball.

When swining, watch the ball come out of his hand...follow it all the way to the bat. And as Kevin Costner said in "Bull Durham", "Quick hands, quick hands."

Yeah, but a 48mph pitch thrown from 45' might be the same as a 90mph pitch thrown from 60' 6"

You would think an engineer would know that. It's all about reaction time. I'm sure there is an equation that breaks it down for us, but it has been too long for me and I am too lazy to find it.

they're not the same, but yes time is a factor.

Frank never mentioned reaction time....As such, I was arguing speed.
and don't worry Mr. Reason I took Physics 3 in college. I'm well aware of relative velocities and the muon particles moving at 3.0E8 m/s.

speed is speed, guys.
48mph is 48mph is 48mph.
distance is the variable here..

ball thrown from 52' at 48mph is still a ball travelling at 48 mph.
time = 0.74 seconds
ball thrown at 60'-6" at 48mph is still a ball travelling at 48mph.
time = 0.86 seconds.

time at .74 seconds from mound at 60'-6" to home plate = 44.8mph.
ball at 90mph from mound at 60'6" to home plate = .48 seconds.

So, bigfan is looking at a reaction time variable of .08 seconds if the ball is thrown at 48 mph from the mound or from 52'. Basically 5 blinks of an eye.

still think he is gonna whiff? I don't....

Maybe.

I would be concerned about it being too slow, not too fast. I would think bigfan has or is conditioning himself to hit a ball in the 70-80mph range. If the guy is lobbing them in there, your timing is going to be all messed up, stepping too early, too much ball arc, etc.

Somebody popping the ball in there with good pace is what you want but the pitcher might just lob them in thinking bigfan wants them as slow as possible, not realize the formidable hitter that bigfan is.

Looks like you edited your post using the quote function.

Keep at it. You'll figure out how the board works soon.

12,000 posts at .01% brain function realization multiplied by t where t is a time variable...

it's a series of virtual work matrices inversely proportional to the number of fat jokes Frank gets in a day divided by the number of mults logged on at any given time, sampled every 14.78 seconds.

First off Awesome BF as I love to feel like a kid again and you will get that chance and make sure you get pictures and post them up.

Secondly , the White Sox do something like this for their Scout seat and Jim Beam season ticket holders as they have a workout on the field day which includes batting practice , shagging fly balls, playing the infield during batting practice and seeing the locker rooms and dugouts and meeting former Sox players and they have food and beer for you as well. A real cool thing to do that not many people know about and as you might guess the Sox are out of town on that day as well .

Doug, what about aerodynamic resistance and gravity rendering the ball speed variable.
