Every single part of that statement makes me happy.

I couldn't be happier that Cotts is gone. Miles on the DL is a bonus. I hope his bum shoulder isn't a serious injury, but his play has been atrocious.

In doing a little research I guess Waddell has a 5.51 era in Iowa. Here comes the cavalry.

a "shake up" was needed. Not sure this qualifies...but Cotts being gone is good. Miles going away for a while is good too. Maybe a guy like Blanco can inject a little life into the team for a short period and bridge the gap until ARam returns.

cool, another big, slugging, late-blooming first baseman with nowhere to play. he's a right-handed hitter who can be a bookend to hoffpauir on the bench.

Waddell, 27, joins the first major league roster in his nine-year professional career. He is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA (10 ER/16.2 IP) in 18 relief appearances, limiting right-handed batters to a .205 average (8-for-39) while lefties have batted .346 (9-for-26) off the southpaw.

Another lefty that can't get lefties out. Sweet.

Fox has torn up AAA and did a nice job yesterday, with the double. It would be sweet to have Hoffpauir and Fox platoon at 1st and have both play in the interleague games, with one as DH. Waddlle did not do a great job at AAA, even against lefties, so I can't see why they are bringing him up. I understand Lou's desire for a southpaw out of the bullpen. BUt I would rather throw a guy who gets guys out! I don't care what arm he uses, just get guys out. Hendry really put the bull in bullpen this year. This group, besides Marmol and Gregg (and occasionally Heilman), is just bad. Lou is overusing some guys too, as he has no trust in some of the others. Guys like Patton have to go. If they can't contribute NOW, get someone else in here that can.

Is it just me or do the Cubs have a lot of "mature" minor leaguers.
Are they holding on to guys too long?

Was Fox not a catcher at some point in time during his minor league career?

I remember the Cubs playing him a bit this spring at 3rd...with very bad results there. He also was used at 1st and DH.

that has been a major failing of Hendry up till this year when he got rid of DeRosa and Wood. It seems to be a theme with the Cubs. Both Micah and Fox are destined to be DH's.

Both should be at 1B or a DH. Ideally, the Cubs would trade Lee and use both in a platoon, but I'm sure there is ZERO interest in Lee, with the lack of production, as well as the 13.5 million dollar salary. So, maybe Hendry might use 1 or both to make trades to get the bullpen help he needs.

Ok, this is what I was wondering. Seems as though the Cubs have these prospects that they
hold onto for a little too long and then they miss their window to be productive. I know part of
it has to do with having a relatively talented lineup at certain spots in the past which may have
held some of these guys back but I just don't see many guys in their mid-20's breaking through.
Soto is the only guy that has done it recently. I didn't realize Fontenot and Theriot are almost
30.

A lot of guys don't have the "measurables", so scouts don't believe they project to the Major league level. Theriot and Fontenot are short and don't have the classic SS arm. A lot of little guys like them, take extra time to reach the majors. They have to prove themselves a lot more than a guy like Cedeno, who while not as good as Theriot, has the "measurables" Theriot lacks. So they get their chance eventually, but usually long after others do. Guys like Hoffpauir and Fox have the bad fortune of having limited defensive abilities, as well as a highly paid established player (Lee) ahead of them. Plus, in Hoffpauirs case, there were injuries that curtailed his arrival to the big leagues, early in his career. Guys like Fox and Hoffpauir, make me almost wish that the NL had the DH.
