Now this is v cool, many personal audio|iPod devices* get FM but not AM:

http://chicagoist.com/2009/06/08/wscr_m ... for_fm.php

Having just added Dan McNeil to its lineup, it seems AM 670 WSCR - The Score - could be making its way to the FM dial soon. According to the Sun-Times, the Score is aiming to be "simulcasting on one of adult hits WJMK-FM's (104.3) three HD frequencies." The S-T report continues:

Both WSCR, the radio home of the White Sox, and WJMK are CBS Radio properties. The simulcast means WSCR fans who have access to an HD radio receiver will be able to hear the station's programming with a much higher quality sound than that now available on the AM frequency.

But sources familiar with developments think the move to add an HD frequency at WSCR could be the first step toward a full-blown simulcast of WSCR on WJMK. In October 2007, CBS Radio made a similar move in Detroit, where its AM sports outlet is now simulcast on an FM frequency.

The move would be a smart one on WSCR's part as it would help boost ratings and help in its competition against WMVP 1000 (ESPN Radio). There's also another emerging competitor, according to Crain's Ed Sherman: Chicagosportswebio could be making the leap from the web to the dial soon, adding a third sports-talk station to the mix.

*that should be "non-iPod iPod-like devices" iPod's require additional hardware to get FM radio.

You would need an HD receiver to get the FM signal, not very portable.

I have an HD radio. Signal goes in and out. I just read somewhere, most stations are backing off of HD signals because they are not catching on.

Was referring to the move to simulcast on the FM frequency, the way the Detroit CBS sports-talk station does.

I think the new Sony Walkman does. Just saw an add for it this weekend in the Best Buy circular.

Quote:
Built-in FM radio tuner
A built-in FM tuner enables you to listen to FM radio stations directly from your MP3 player without the need for additional accessories
