With the Cubs reeling from a sweep in Detroit, they come back to Chicago seeking to right the ship. Unfortunately they will be on th "other" side of town, where mullets and wife beater T-shirts are fashion statements and the fans beat up 1st base coaches for opposing teams. Wells will try to build on his 1st career win and continue his excellent (with 1 lone exception) string of quality starts. He will face Contreras, who was awful in the beginning of the season, went to the minors, then was outstanding in 2 starts, before looking a bit more hittable again in his last outing. they have been giving him extra rest when they can, so I won't be surprised if he gets knocked around after a few innings today-this guy is not going to continue to fare well. he will break down and suck again, in short order. Dempster and Zambrano, will face Buerhle and Danks in the weekend games. The weekend games should offer a couple of good pitching match-ups. Time to right the ship and sweep the south siders. Between the Cubs getting swept in Detroit and then sweeping the Sox, they can really put the Sux behind the 8 ball in the AL Central.

A genuine baseball fan, rather than some Cubs or Sox zealot, will inform you that the product MLB is putting on the field lately absolutely sucks.

We Sox fans are not losing sleep worrying about the dumb assed Divisional Championship with a Frankenstein monster of a team.

Perhaps some of you Cub fans are coming to realize winning a shit Division means jackshit come October?

The 2006 champion St Louis Cardinals won just 83 regular season games, taking what was a very poor division that season. But they got hot at the right time and rode the wave to the title. I would be just fine with that. Winning 97 games last year was nice. The Cubs had a better team-I believe. But if this squad can win a mediocre division in 2009 but go on to win the World Series, that would be great.

I can understand that, but I sure as hell wish the quality of play in MLB will begin to improve with time.

This will not be a nice weekend for the Cubs. I'd be suprised if they score more than 10 runs over the 3 games.

Cubs win 2 of 3. High scoring games for the most part - for both teams.

In that park, with this weather, anybody should be able to score runs. I expect 12+ total runs in game 1 today. Both pitchers will look bad. The Wells train comes off the tracks, but the Contreras era will finally come to an end at the age of 54.

Generally, the home team takes 2 of 3 in these series. So I'll say Sox win today and Sunday. That said, the Cubs will win that makeup game in Sept.

Steve, what about this team leads you to believe they are division championship caliber, much less World Series caliber? Take off your blue tinted glasses for ONCE in your pathetic life. Based on everything I have seen from both teams, they are going to combine to win about 166 games, and the only game they will be playing in October is golf.

I would go with the Sox winning today and tomorrow over Sunday-the tend to hit Dempster really well.

As the scene shifts to U.S. Cellular Field this weekend, the White Sox have NEVER seen Randy Wells, who has pitched better than his 1-3 record would indicate for the Cubs. That's not a good omen for the Sox, whose inability to hit pitchers they've never seen is well documented. As for the rest of this series, Ryan Dempster & Mark Buehrle are on the bump tomorrow in the FOX Sports' game, and Carlos Zambrano faces an inconsistent John Danks Sunday. The way this season has gone, it could go either way. The Cubs have been awful away from Wrigley and the Sox have been awful at home. Something's gotta give in what could be the ONLY compelling series of the season for 2 teams that are thisclose to being sellers come the July 31st MLB Trading Deadline and Lou Piniella thisclose to calling baseball games again in the MLB/FOX booth.

I'm actually excited for this series.

I mean, as a Cub fan, how many times am I actually gonna get to see G. Beckham make 4 errors in a weekend? I just simply don't watch that many Sox games.

Yeah you get the pleasure of watching Brooks Fox play 3B. He should be able to wear his catching gear playing there this weekend.

This comment is not strictly reserved for the White Sox. The Cubs are also notorious for this, as are most MLB teams.

Another AL vs. NL matchup? I'll take the AL team. Especially the one that just beat the best team by far in the NL 2 of 3.

The second coming isn't Fox. Its Hauffpauer.

Go back to making up stories about sex with co-workers and stay out of this.

And why does Soriano act like he's never seen a split-finger fastball like Contreras has? Imean, come on - they're both Jamaican!!!!!

Sadly enough I was thinking the same thing.

I predicted to my boss that the Sox would win today and Contreras would go 7 innings, 3 hits and 1 run.

Now I have to hope that the Cubs will actually get to him for 1 run.

I should change this to my avatar:

Current Half Inning (last play on top)
Bradley struck out swinging.

Fox is hot. Can't get away with throwing him anything over the plate right now.

Hopefully Wells can hold it.

What is up with the double 'eeeeyess!" from Hawk? Does he think he has to do it because Stoney is not into that kind of grab-ass? As a Cubs fan I love listening to him, cemented by the last game the two teams played when all he could do was whine about the strike zone...

Hawk: "Ugh, one missed strike call, and 2 runs as a result."
Stone: "Well, one missed strike call and back to back home runs."

I love you Hawk, keep that coming.
