Like I asked Bernsie through a txt message (not sure if he read it) when I make deliveries in Trib Tower, does being in the same building as Phil Rogers automatically make me dumber about baseball?

Hyperbole is one thing, but this...
Wow. Some of the baseball cognescenti around here ought to be shocked by the ignorance of that statement.

Wait... wait a second. A player claimed off waivers is done, right? That's it? No trade? I'm second guessing myself now. It's like someone telling you that you actually only need nine yards to get a first down, and that you count the yard you're on to get to 10 or something.

He can be Designated for Assignment which means the team has 10 days to trade him or release him.

This is a little excessive to say the least. I can't belive the jock-sniffer is stepping out like this.

The Cubs are 0-5 in Zambrano's starts in the playoffs, being outscored 31-15. We'll dismiss the 2003 NL Championship Series as old news and blame Piniella for lifting him when he was in a 1-1 game against Brandon Webb in the 2007 playoff opener, but his pitching had as much to do with the ugly Game 2 loss to Los Angeles last year as did the four infield errors.

So, is Zambrano to blame or not for postseason losses? Rogers negates his own argument. In his 2007-2008 postseason starts, Zambrano allowed 4 ER in 12.1 IP. Funny that he calls the Cubs "drama queens" in a piece that is all emotion and no logic.

If the Cubs could get Tony Gwynn, Jason Frasor and Vin Mazzaro for Z, they should pull the trigger.

Which Z personality goes to what team??

San Diego gets Dumb Z.

Toronto gets Angry Z.

Oakland gets Crazy Z.

I think San Diego is getting screwed in this deal.

Phil Rogers is a jackass. Most of the baseball writing in this town is garbage but for a guy who's supposed to be knowledgeable of not only Chicago but the whole damn league how can he be so consistently wrong and keep his job?

Only if Phil has a desk there. If he works from home, you might be safe.

Real question is, does your basseball smarts return when you leave the vicinity?

He could be placed on revokable waivers, which gives teams a chance to claim him, then the club can try to work out a trade with the team that puts in a claim. If no agreement is reached, they can either pull him off waivers or allow the claiming team to simply have the player and assume the players contract.

Yes, lets trade a pitcher who has averaged 15 wins a year for the last six years and has a record of 95-53 going back to 2003 (a .640 winning percentage compared to the Cubs .517 winning percentage during the same time) for someone elses garbage.

Zambrano is a nut case, but he is far from this teams biggest problem. Bradley, Fukodome, Soriano's woeful defense, no closer etc.

Quote:
but his pitching had as much to do with the ugly Game 2 loss to Los Angeles last year as did the four infield errors.
Quote:

Did he not watch the game? The guys who choked were the "character" guys, Lee, Derosa, Theriot. Hard to win when you have to record 5 outs in one inning.

How many games has Z cost the Cubs in his career?

Answer: Too Many.

Well he as lost 50 times in the past 6 years (before this year). That's about 8 a season. Not bad.
I can't blame him for yesterday, hard to win when you can't score runs.

Could Zambrano be a better pitcher, maybe. But again he is not the biggest problem the Cubs have.

I think its silly to put him on waivers, or to outright release him.

But if you really think that Zambrano's actions are not a problem for the Cubs, you're dillusional.

Is it a problem, yeah, I wish he could control his emotions more.

But he did not cost the Cubs the game yesterday. Lack of clutch hitting, again....piss poor defense, Soriano, Theriot are more to blame than Zambrano losing his cool when the game was pretty much decided.

But Zambrano will be the subject on radio and TV today because it's an easy story to write and talk about. I don't think it's as big of a problem as its made out to be. In the last two years in the playoffs when the spotlight has shown the brightest, he has been one of the few Cubs who actually performed.

It sure as shit is a big problem. He has a history of doing this. He blew up just a few weeks ago at Wrigley, over a call at the plate that was made correctly. He blows up, then talks all calm and quiet at the press conference, and 3, 4 weeks later he blows up again. He seriously needs some mental help ASAP.

Of course, I guess the Cubs should just keep doing what they've been doing with Zambrano, because each act of this comedic tragedy is better than the preceeding one.

what exactly do you expect the Cubs to do? Zambrano is what he is. You are not going to change the guy.

If you want to trade him, fine. As long as you bring in some talent. But the last two years he has helped the Cubs get in the playoffs, and in the playoffs he has held his cool while others around him wet their pants <cough> Dempster <cough>.

And the best part is the same people in the media who are after Zambrano for losing his cool will criticize Pineilla for not losing his.

M&H this morning said they liked the idea because it would send a shot across the bow... but if they were going to send a shot across the bow, shouldn't they do it with one of their over-paid under-producing outfielders?

There is no such thing as 'revocable waivers'. What you described is called 'designated for assignment'.

'Irrevocable waivers' means he can be claimed by another team and NOT pulled back by the original club. However, you can not put a player on 'irrevocable waivers' that has a full no-trade clause. Of course the Big Dumass has a full no trade clause because Jim Hendry hands those out like they're candy.

Three way trade:

Buehrle to the Cardinals
Zambrano to the Sox
Derosa to the Cubs

all the players get to go where they would like to play...the Cardinals and Sox get great players...and the Cubs get a fan favorite that will keep people coming to the park...a win from everyone's perspective

What a god awful idea. Big Dumbass is owed $63M for '10-'13 while Buehrle is owed $28M for '10-'11. And Buehrle is the better pitcher. That's a lose -lose for the Sox.
