I've noticed all throughout today on the Score there's been a different announcer guy doing the promos and such...like the "you're listening to Chicago's sports station 670 the score"

That's a good question, Bagels. I think the new voice guy at The SCORE works hand & hand, or voice & voice with Russ Mitera. I know Jim Cutler, no relation to Bears' quarterback Jay, is the voice of ESPN Radio, both nationally and on ESPN Radio 1000 locally. Jim's deep pipes have been heard on WGN's CW 9 and on WGN Superstation, before it became WGN America, DIRECTV 307. Cutler's also done voiceover work on ABC News, "Judge Mills Lane" & VERSUS, DIRECTV 603, plus also did the voiceovers on ESPN's "E:60". Cutler replaced another guy who was the voice of the WWE...I'm not sure who he was. The voice of The SCORE was also the voice of FX, DIRECTV 248, until a couple days ago...

SHARK, are you saying Jim Cutler is Mitera's new voice partner or are you just spouting out random bits of irrelevant information?

For the record, Jim Cutler has been the big voice of ESPN Radio for many, many years. As for who is the new big voice guy at 670 The SCORE is, I wish I knew. I know that David Lee, not to be confused with the New York Knicks' power forward, is the big voice guy of Westwood One and whenever they air an NFL & NCAA Basketball game, studio host Tommy Tighe always thanks him after David introduces him.

I noticed a new "voice guy" on the Score on my drive back in to the city tonight. Cutting you some slack here, SHARK, just this once.

I'm not a fan of any of the Score's voice-over (the guy who also does FX and CBS TV) talent. I said it before and got flamed for it, but he sounds like he should narrate or do play-by-play to a porn scene. His voice sounds so phony... maybe it's the way the Score writes his promos??

The other guy, who I assume is a local employee there, is more amateurish. I'm talking about the one who voices the Heavenly Bodies commercials and other Score commercials... and occasionally for shows. I feel he tries too hard.

Truth be told, John, the likes of "Mully & Hanley", Mac, Matt Spiegel, Dan Bernstein & Terry Boers have been voicing the SCORE's spots, including the ones encouraging you to check out SportsRadio 670 in "FM quality" at 104.3 HD2. The SCORE's big new voice guy is good, giving the sports talker a more professional sound. He's probably recording the spots in a recording studio, but not necessarily at NBC Tower where WSCR calls home these days. I don't know if anyone's noticed, but ABC7 recently parted company with its longtime announcer Ron Rolland after 19 years and replaced him with the younger Roger Rose. Roger has voiced promos for ABC nationally, and plans on recording his promos in his Los Angeles studio. You might not know the voice, but you might know his work...It's the kind of work I wish I had!

More tidbits for you radio geeks: in 2001 when WSCR moved to the NBC Tower they almost hired voiceguy Brad Bisk who'd just left NBC5 who'd just hired Ed Hopkins formerly of 95.5 WMET.

The new voice guy is horrible and does not help to give the Score a "more professionsl sound". This gus sounds like a douche with his fake broadcaster voice. Is voice is uncomfortable to listen to. Who the fuck listens to a radio station because of the voice over guy anyway???

I'm getting into real radio geek territory (but I'm this far in, why stop now) criticizing the new imaging, but man, that station ID and everything around it is painful. "Scoreboard update" sounds especially constipated.

At least they don't say "your radio home of the 2008 American League Central Division Champion White Sox" anymore. That was an awful mouthful.

The guys is the commercial announcer from WFAN in New York; I don't know his name, but he has been with them for years. Perhaps a cost cutting move on CBS's part.

We still don't know his name, but CBS Radio owns both WSCR here & WFAN out there in New York...

He's better than Russ, although that's not saying much.

More "original" thoughts from JK. Just take out "new voice guy", "gus" and "Is" and replace it with Meatpants and you would have a post in the Danny Mac section.
As for your final sentence, the point of the thread was that a different voice was on the spots -- that's it.

Russ Mitera is still at 670 The SCORE...as far as I know. He's been the Production Director for so long, even he needs a breather. That may explain why you might have heard the raspy, whispery tones of ex-ESPN Radio 1000 Production Director Ernie Scanton during breaks on WSCR. Keep listening, and you might know what I mean.
