According to the bestest most trustworthy website of all time.

Per www.Chi-Ball.com:

Yahoo sports reports the Cubs have traded for Jeff Baker. Baker, (who can play multiple positions) could be used in a role simular to the way the Cubs used Mark DeRosa.

The Chicago Cubs have acquired Jeff Baker(notes) from the Colorado Rockies, according to a source close to the club.

It is unclear who the Rockies will receive in return for Baker or the Cubs’ plans for him.

Baker, an infielder, went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 27 and was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 24. He began a minor league rehab assignment June 19.

He's a career .257 hitter. He's got a little pop and has been mainly a back-up at Colorado. Not really in DeRosa's class at all. He may be insurance for Ram, in the event the shoulder doesn't hold up. If it does hold up, hopefully this spells the end for Aaron Miles.

Do the Cubs really need Miles, Freel & Baker all on the roster?

Wow last year in his most extensive work in the majors he had 85 strike outs in 299 ab's. This guy sounds like he will fit right in.

Just go out and get Mark Teahan, for Pete's sake!
He's the only guy available who can proximate what DeRosa did.

Hopefully this trade will work out better than the last trade with Colorado.

The Cubs will designate Ryan Freel for assignment when their trade for Rockies infielder Jeff Baker becomes official, reported the Arlington Daily Herald.

That's a very surprising move.

It seems to me like this guy and Freel are the same guy. Whats the point?

I'd rather have Jeff Blauser.

At his age and with the pedigree he's carried into the big leagues, Teahen projects to be a much better player than DeRosa and would cost more in a trade (and he's being paid over $3 mil this year, not sure how that compares to DeRosa but it's definitely more expensive than Baker and Freel). Teahen's contract is up this year and if Alex Gordon doesn't make good on his potential the Royals may be willing to let him go, but if Ramirez is to stay with the Cubs I don't see where Teahen fits other than in the outfield.

Bakers road splits are awful. Freel was really no good either, Hendry's just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Baker? Was Phil Nevin not available?
What is with the way too late and way too bad moves for injured players with Hendry?
Jesus this team is EXPOSED as far as injuries to two or three key guys.

I would rather they kept Freel actually.

Worst part of this is that this clown is out of minor league options so the Cubs will have to send Jake Fox down when A-Ram and Miles come off the DL. Awesome.
