Soriano sitting again tonight. Sam Fuld leading off. I think Soriano will eventually be a huge reason why we make or miss the playoffs, but I can't blame Lou for winning this important game, this night, for playing Sam.

Fuld leading off? Fox batting 5th? Fukudome still in Chicago? Fontenot batting 8th (he should be batting 9th or not at all).
This line up is uninspiring. Looks like a brutal night in store for us tonight.

I agree. I suspect that either Lou is grasping at straws in a desperate attempt to generate consistant offense, or he's just trying to make Hendry look bad. Either way, this doesn't bode well for the Cubs tonight.
The lineup is an attempt to do something at least. Lord knows Soriano hasn't done much for a month (sub .300 OBP I believe?). He's got to be hurt.

Wow was I ever wrong.
Cubs score 4 in the first in an agonizing 38 pitch inning from mcClung

I won't say 9-2 is a laugher, because this Cubs team is capable of fucking this up. That said, me likey so far! Keep on keepin' on!

Every starter save Dempster with at least one hit. Damned nice to see!

That's the problem with this team; too many players go in streaks. The Cubs don't have many consistent batters: Soriano Fuke.., Soto, Fonenot, Lee, Theriot and Bradley's only streak is, well, :puker:

Lee had a career high 7 RBI tonight. That was awesome. But did you see the meat he was served tonight? All that was missing, was the vegetable and choice of potato. But I give him credit, he hit the ball very well tonight. Last night with 1 out and 2 on, he hit into a double play. I was cursing him, as I did through April and early May. But for the last 6 weeks he has been very good. I hope it can continue. If the Cubs can have a great weekend against the Brewers, it could go a long way towards getting this train back on it's tracks.

The Cubs are now 9 games over the .500 mark at "The Shrine" this season!

true, the grand slam ball was a grapefruit because that guy had absolutely nothing. but it was just what the doctor ordered.

however, the bullpen still made it too interesting in the later innings. in the words of fox mulder, TRUST NO ONE going into the bullpen...

Lee hasnt just been on a streak. hes been hitting consistently well for months. hes had only 2 games since the beginning of june where he hasnt gotten atleast one hit. its funny to see everyone whining about him during the offseason and begging for Hoffpauir but Lee has been carrying this team for over a month. cubs fans have no faith in the guy and its pretty lame

I was one of those critical of Lee early in the season. I am glad to see him get hot. But we have seen him do this in both '07 and '08 where he gets insanely hot for a month or so (April and May last year) and then for whatever reason fades. Hopefully, he won't fade like he did last year.

I think the homeplate ump jumped to early on the warnings. Z didn't hit Fielder on purpose, if you have a brain. There were 2 on and no outs already. So far it seems like the ump is giving Suppan a bigger strike zone on the corners. He squeezed Z on the walk that brought the run in, and called a strike on Theriot and Bradley that were real bad.

Lou should of sat Fukudome today. Then Bradley the next day. You keep playing the hot hand, especially when you're struggling to score runs.

Bad at bat by Hill. 3-1 count and he its a weak grounder to 1st that doesn't score the run, luckily Z picks his ass up. Pretty bad when your pitcher is a better situational hitter then some of your regulars.

Good thing Soriano is back in the lineup today. Last 2 at bats, he has left 3 on base, 2 in scoring position. 0 for 3 so far today.

Why the hell was Jeff Suppan running for himself?? That was a terrible coaching decision by Ken Macha. You already got a gift by Suppan only giving up 1 run in 6 innings. That move could end up costing them the game. Stupid stupid stupid.

Godd throw by Fukudome. Great outing by Zambrano, pitched around errors by Theriot and Fox. Think I would of rather had him hit than Hoff, but thats just me. Hopefully we can scratch out a win here, but besides Lee, I don't know if we will get a hit. Soriano, Fontenot, and Hill are pretty much easy outs, if you don't throw a fastball right down the middle.

I get the feeling Soriano is going deep this at bat.
