Lou did say Soriano was going to start today, even before Sam Fuld had another very nice day.

Now Lou did not say Fuld would not start, maybe in CF and he did not say who would leadoff.

But Lou is treading in DUSTY territory if Fuld sits and nobody else perfroms today

I have no problem putting Soriano back in the lineup, but Fuld needs to either play center and move Fukodome to right, or sit Fukodome.

Fuld has brought a spark and he adds something different to the team, speed and defense. Play him while he is hot.

cub fan meatball Chris in St Charles just got a beatdown (and deservedly so) by MacMeat for comparing flash in the pan Sam Fuld to Gordon Beckham. That was great.

He should have compared Fuld to Pods. They both provide a spark, but it won't last all season. Ride that wave for as long as you can.

Fuld = Beckham?! And you people say Sox fans are baseball retarded.

This baseball fan just thinks you're dense. Not Sox fans in general. For the most part, meatballs are dense. But you Frank? Around here, your the Mayor of Simpleton. "you people" indeed.
Retarded? That's another really delightful word I wish would disappear from the English language, but that's an argument for another day.

Having said all that, you've actually got a point. Fuld is a spark, nothing more. Nice showing the last couple days, but no reason at all to compare him to Beckham.

They sort of misunderstood my point (or more probably, I did a poor job explaining it).

They were busting Cubs fans chops for getting behind Fuld during his 'hot streak' of two games. I will simply taking a jab at White Sox fans for giving Gordon Beckham a standing ovation every at bat his first game after achieving absolutely nothing at any pro level. Honestly wasn't intended to have anything to do with the players involved (Fuld vs. Beckham), but I see why it was construed that way. Poorly written on my part. Beating deserved.

Just to be 100% clear... in no way, shape or form would I ever consider Fuld and Beckham to be anywhere NEAR each other as it pertains to talent.

Exactly. Bacon couldn't hold Fuld's jockstrap. Though he would probably like to.

It was reported that Soriano will be dropped to 6th in the order for saturdays game, with Fuld in the leadoff position!!! I like the way this young man approaches the leadoff spot. Takes pitches, works the count and he has a nice short, quick swing. I look forward to seeing more and determining if he is someone who might be a legit leadoff hitter at the major league level or not. Besides that, he plays very nicely on defense.

This is a no brainer. Lou is usually pretty consistent with playing the kids who come up and succeed. Until MLB pitchers (scouts) figure out Fuld (which I dont imagine will be too difficult), you gotta play him. And when Soriano goes 0-5 it makes the decision even easier.

Chris, it's been a no-Brainer for a Looooong time now. Yet Lou has remained stubborn about batting Soriano 1st anyway. So this is a real cause for celebration. Now God pleeeease let Fuld continue to reach base, so Lou doesn't go back to Soriano.

You're absolutely right. My biggest fear is that Fuld will drop an o-fer and Sori will get a few hits today... and Lou will change his mind.

What the cubs really need to do is trade for a SS and move The Riot to 2B. He doesn't have the range to an everyday SS and that was evidenced again yesterday with a groundball that was 2 steps to his left that he let get by for a leadoff single. That would also allow Fontenot to go back to the bench where Lou can spot start him in good matchups like last season when he was so productive.

I think Orlando Cabrera would be a perfect fit. He's cheap (only making $4M this season) and he has a clause in his contract that says he can't be offered arbitration if he's a type A free agent (he currently qualifies as a type A). That means the cubs won't have to compensate the A's for lost draft picks and a mid-level prospect should get a deal done. Cabrera is having a down season offensively but that A's team is a mess and he's still a very good glove man and could solidify the infield defense.

Here's the thing: fans aren't LITERALLY pushing for a Fuld statue. Most of the desire for Fuld to play stems from the "I've had enough" type feeling most fans have of Soriano in the leadoff spot.

Plus, who wouldn't cheer for a AAA'er who steps up to the big leagues and does pretty well in his first 2 games? If Fuld goes 0 for his next 25, I would expect Cub fans to jump off the Fuld badwagon. But if he can find a way to mimic his play from the first 2 games, over the next ten... I see no reason not to pull for a guy like that. Call it meatballism, or call it whatever you want... but to me it makes sense to cheer for the guys who are playing well.

BTW, Fontenot is white and "firey & passiony" and most Cubs fans want to kill him.

Cubby blue has finally infected Piniella's brain. Fuld actually injects a little life in this team and Lou sits him in favor of Dumb and Dumber.....

Only a Chicago Cub manager could be that stupid.

Not a bad idea. I had said the same thing about Theriots defense this past winter, when I wanted the Cubs to go after a SS and move Theriot to 2nd, if they couldn't swing a deal for Roberts. My ideal scenario was to have Roberts at 2nd and Furcal at SS-who was a free agent. It would offer a slight upgrade on offense (Cabrera over Fontenot) and a definite upgrade on defense.

Morons want Fuld to replace Soriano because he had 2 good days in the outfield.

There are a few people who want you to replace Pinella. The managers of the other teams in the NL Central.

Weren't the same people calling for Hoffpauir to replace Lee in April?

Let's see who is more likely to have a good 81 games left?

Fuld or Soriano.

Of course we have the braindead who say Cub fans only want Hoffpauir and Fuld because they are white. Those people should be beaten with a stick and put in an institution for being such morons.

Fuld over Soriano for the rest of the season as the morons suggest is even dumber than Hoffpauir over Lee actually. Hoffpauir has shown more than Fuld.

If anyone should be considered for left bat wise it should be Fox. Even Hoffpauir.

But everyone with an IQ over 3 knows Soriano will come around. The same idiots were calling for Lee to be shot back in April.

The dumbest thing is we bash players all over and call them selfish when they don't play when they hurt and Soriano is playing hurt and we're bashing him for it.

If anything part of the problem is he's pushing it.

I think Ramirez returning obviously helps the lineup with a quality bat but it may relax everyone a bit more.

shamus, there's more to Soriano than an injury. I don't care if your leg hurts or your back, that doesn't make you start in and have flies go over your head. He is playing distracted, and it's affecting both sides of his game. The injury you speak of must be between his ears. At any rate, you have to do something because you don't win divisions with guys batting under the mendoza line in your lineup.
The way he's playing now, you have to consider getting him out of there. Temporarly. Until he gets his head out of his butt.
