Not for the Cubs.

I would love to have Zambrano and I expect him to be fantastic today.

His hatred of all things Cubs is astounding. Frank talking about Zambrano's mental instability is both funny "ha-ha" and funny "kinda wierd"

To continue the AJ/Z debate, I actually wanted AJ on the Cubs when the Giants were dying to be rid of him. He's rather Rodman-esque in the sense that you hate him on anyone else's team but, if he's on your team, you love him. He has an elan and "it" factor that the Cubs could definitely use. He's a scrappy, hard headed, win at all costs kind of guy that I have to respect. The fact that he's not on my team is unfortunate. Do I hate him and have complete blindness to his attributes because he's on a "rival" team?
Only a fool would do that.

The media as a whole thinks the Cubs should get rid of Zambrano. Which means that the Cubs should sign him to a lifetime contract, build a statue of him in front of Wrigley and rename Wrigley Zambrano field.

ANything the media suggests in this city is wrong. Different sport but biggest example if Lovie listens to the media in 06 the Bears don't go to the Super Bowl. Because the media wanted him to start a QB who sucked their dicks (figuratively) in Griese. If he did they lose to the Seawhawks.

Show me a poll excluded to CUBS fans that shows a majority of them want Zambrano gone. Shit man, why would a fan, a real fan, want to lose a pitcher with his winning percentage? A guy who could throw a no-hitter any day (before you slay me for it yes I believe the Sox actually have TWO guys who could pop a no hitter on any given start) belongs on this team and a reasonable Cubs fan knows it.

Let me play devil's advocate:

The Cubs clearly aren't winning the world series this year, are cash-strapped, and are built like a a "win now" type of team without the ability to, you know, win now. A player like Z would mint a king's ransom on the trading block at the end of July to help replenish a barren farm system.

I guess, if the Cubs aren't going to be buyers, and they're not going to win with this collection of players, they should be sellers. What players are important (and young) enough to keep for the next go around? Maybe you put Z on that list, but I could see where a knockout offer might persuade someone differently.

I certainly wouldn't just waive him though.

"The Cubs clearly aren't winning the world series this year".

Nice to see you can predict the future. Obviously the odds are against any organization that hasn't won in 100 years. But to say they clearly aren't winning it when they are where they are in the standings is just plain ignorant.

The Cubs managed to play to 1 over 500 and 2 1/2 out without their best player for 2 months and a weakened pen and bench.

The best player comes back today and a good bench player returns in Johnson and Guzman will strengthen the pen. The bench will also be improved because whoever is relegated to the bench with Ramirez back and what happens in center with Johnson's return will put better players there that have been starting.

In Milwaukee and St. Louis they have to be thinking of a lost chance to put the Cubs away.

This team hasn't been at full strength all season.

There's little doubt if any Soriano will bounce back. Maybe 2 weeks off would help him get over that stupid knee. You can't fault a guy for trying and giving what he could knowing the team was weakened without Ramirez.

I think Bradley will have a decent but not spectacular 2nd half. Same for Soto.

Trading Z would be giving up on the next 5 years not only 2009.
