I believe MLB has some rules about trading guys in the first year of a deal. Basically, don't think you can deal them.

I know Adam Dunn is already in trade rumors around the league.

I don't think that has anything to do with FA signings. I think a first round draft pick cannot be dealt in his first year with the team. This came up during the Peavy trade, and people were saying "send Beckham!" Well, you can't...at least not until 2010.

I think Keyser Soze (or maybe suckers playground?) posted on such a rule....defer all questions to them.

re: Beckham|First round draft picks, I think they could get around that by including a PTBNL with an agreement that when later rolls around that player will be Beckham|some first round draft pick in his first year with the team.
