Chet said this morning on his show that his sources have indicated part of the reason Ben came to Chicago is that the Bulls have told them they are continuing to pursue Kevin Garnett. Chet also has said the rumored trade is Tyson Chandler, Tyrus Thomas, and Luol Deng for Kevin Garnett. I know the Bulls would get a lot older with Ben and Kevin, but you got to think they could make a puch for a title now with those two. Part of me doesn't want to see any of this because there was something nice about the entire Bulls team continue to grow as young players developing into their prime years.

I'd hate to lose Deng, but he is not tremendously athletic and limited in more than a couple facets of his game. Garnett is a MAN and has the type of fire and take the ball killer instinct that Skiles would kill for to have on his team. If Pax could pull it off, it certainly would have Bulls fans all fired up in this city to have a potential winner again.

I'd like to see it happen, just to get passed this treading water stage they seem to be mired in. If nothing else, it would be a helluva lot of fun to watch.

Hawk, Ithink you madea good point when you described Garnett as a "man." I just don't see that out of Deng all the time, and I'm not going back to the playoff series. Throughout the regular season there are times when I just don't feel like Deng is really all that physical or tough to the hoop. Still not quite a man so to speak.

WR you must remember that last year was Deng's first playoff game and he got the experience he needed.

OG, you must remember I was not including his playoff performance in my assessment of him. He just seems very hesitant at times which doesn't work well when you go to the hoop. I like him, don't get me wrong.

I think most of us watch enough of all sports to recognize when any athelete has that "thing" in them that is like gasoline in their veins. You know when you don't see it, too. Know what I'm talking about?

Eddy Curry had none of it. Andreas Nocioni has a lot of it. I think Deng plays at 80% a lot of the time, and takes plays off. Gordon does it, too. It's why I think he is in Skiles dog house a lot—and may not be long for this team if he doesn't start revving it up a bit all the time, and not just in the 4th quarter.

It isn't talent at all, it's heart and fire and that feeling you get when you see them play at any particular time in any game... like they MIGHT just run through a brick wall to win. They may have at some point, too.

You saw that last year from the White Sox. It's not a coincidence that the guys Kenny traded away didn't always show that RPM in everyday games. Carlos Lee comes to mind. Aaron Rowand wasn't the most talented center fielder in the MLB, but that lunchpail punch-your-lights-out attitude is what they are trying to bring into the Bulls now. It's why Tim Thomas was NEVER going to play for Skiles. He had no bile in his throat that made him want it bad enough, no matter how well he played in the playoffs for the Suns. He had the heart of a loser—and that's not what the Bulls want or need.

MJ had a gift, but he also was ruthless and had that bile in his throat that made him want to die when he lost. Bird and Magic were the same way.

Pax and Skiles want a team made up of that, and with a few guys with some pure talent and fire like Garnett, they think they can win.

That right there is one of the best things I've read in awhile. I'm soo f'ing sick of these idiots that claim it was a mistake for the Bulls to let go of Thomas. I don't need to sum up anything else about it. You did it perfectly.

I am excited about Luol. I hope he can get consistent, but I loved that regular season game in Miami (even if they weren't trying)

Here is why the Bulls won't win:

There is no team in NBA history to have won a title without an inside scoring presence. In the Bulls winning days they received about 20 ppg from their PF and C who actually had back to the basket moves, and Jordan and Pippen posted up virtually every player they played against.

Horace Grant averaged over 13 ppg in Bulls championship seasons and Longley/Cartwright did about 9 ppg. Last year Wallace and Brown combined for about 15 ppg, mainly on putbacks and junk.

Nocioni, Gordon or Hinrich can't post anybody up. Deng is the only option.

Teams can stick to their men, have no need to double team anyone, and basically disregard Brown and Wallace as offensive threats.

The most recent Pistons championship, which will be comparable to the Bulls current team, had 4 players over 15 ppg (Hamilton, Billups, R. Wallace and Prince). All of those players, except for Hamilton also posted up.

In short, ha, they need to get Garnett.
